I do really think this song is about cherishing (?) love, about who's around you, a remember that they are there and that we shouldn't push them away. This is like a story of a man who went (and is goinf through) in a rough time and the 'she' in it is the one who is around him and wants to help but he doesn't see it. So: [So what became of loving man? Oh what became of you?] In this we can see that he changed, he's not the same, where is that loving man that he was? [Familiar as you shook my hand] But although he changed, certain parts of him are the same, of course, they haven't changed and one of them is his handshake, it is familiar to her. [What was it you meant to do?] This question is made because she wonders what he was trying to do with him, with is life that made him like this, made him change, put him in bad times because she can't really understand. [Because all could change for one And all, could change in this new day] About this part I don't really know what to think. Maybe by saying that all could change for one she is saying that he could change, get better for her if he loves her. And the 'all could change in this new day' is a hope message from her saying that he can turn things around, it just depends on him. [She said the devil will want you back] Here she's saying that this won't be neither the first nor the last time he will pass throught rough times, the devil will 'seek' him again 'cause well, this is life. [And you'll never find love in an open hand] This is pretty clear: love is not easy to find, to find a person who loves you... [Shut your eyes, so you see I'm there] ...and so you've got to cheer it, you've got to look around and see who's there and there will be someone just waiting and trying to help you. [And know you'll always have this if you stay this man] I think that by 'this man' she means that guy, that guy which the handshake was familiar to her. If he stay that man or at least doesntt completly lose himself, he will have her and her help and will have her around 'cause she loves him. [I lied, this was not for my pride I know this was my time] I don't know about this, I have no idea, but it can be him saying that he didn't see her there because of his pride, because he didn't want her to see him like that or because we didn't want to admit he was shit but because he knew it was 'his time' and that he could not be 'saved'. And thats pretty much this my interpretation. Sorry if there's any mistake, i'm not an english native. |
