Hey... I appreciate the depth that you saw and brought out in the songs lyrics, but I believe that the songs meaning has nothing to do with dad issues. It seems to me like Allen's simply lamenting about how the government's making life harder while claiming to care for the people. The references to his father are just memories of his dad imparting wisdom and experience concerning the authorities (government) and life issues. E.g.
