I think this song definitely has a lot to do with "love" or lust rather, involving the current generation. Little girls don't know how to be sweet girls. Mama didn't teach me. Little boys don't know how to treat little girls. Daddy didn't show me. Face down, on top of your bed. Oh why did I give it up to you? Is this how I shoot myself up high, Just high enough to get through? Most boys these days are far from "gentleman" and some of that can be blamed on bad father figures or never being shown has a man should treat a woman and so they use them for one thing. Girls these days are so determined to find love that they often mistake the intentions of boys. "Why did I give it up to you" could definitely signify a girl losing her virginity to a boy who lied and said he loved her, and is now regretting it, realizing that it was all a ploy. A lot of girls confuse sex and love these days. The overal theme of the song, I feel, is that despite how many heartbroken people we see and how many times we get heartbroken ourselves and want to give up on love, it's still something we long for. It's still what's holding everyone and everything together. Scars feel like knives, They tell us why we're fighting. Storm, wait outside. Oh, love, hold us together. Love can be one of the biggest things to break us, yet it's something we all desire and sometimes is the only thing keeping us hopeful for the future and holding us together. |

People can hate on this song all they want but it's still on replay on most young adults playlists. Yeah, she could have dropped the two drug references but this song legit shows the zone that people my age are in when we're partying. When you're out and you have that whole "We're young; we only live once; Nobody can stop us" vibe where you just let loose. I seriously love this song and even though I'm not keen on all her music, this was definitely the jam of the summer. Well one of them at least. I think this song is also a shout out by Miley to all the people hating on Miley's new image; And while I admit she can be a little out there, she's enjoying herself. That's what this song is about. "It's our house we can say what we want to"; meaning it's her life (our life) and we can say/do/be whoever we want to. |

This song is obviously about a relationship, most likely one coming to an end. It starts with two people meeting and falling head over heels with each other without hesitation. Eventually problems developed and fights began and by the second verse it sounds like she knows the relationship should end but loves him so much, that she's holding on with everything she has; "I put you high up in the sky and now you're not coming down". The next line "It slowly turned, you let me burn and now we're ashes on the ground" shows that maybe he wasn't putting in as much effort into fixing things. She wanted to make the relationship work despite the doubts and he kind of just let things fall apart. "Don't you ever say I just walked away", is her telling him 'I really tried. Don't act like I gave up so easy because I really loved you, but I can't anymore'. The chorus really gets to the chore of their problems, as well as the bridge. All she wanted was for him to open up and let down his walls with her but he always kept his guard up. When she finally let him in all he did was put her down and "wreck her". But she's also realizing that maybe she wasn't as open with her feelings as she could've been, "I never meant to start a war/ I just wanted you to let me in/ And instead of using force/ I guess I should have let you in". Instead of always fighting with him about why he never showed emotion, she should have opened up about her feelings instead of starting an argument. In the end the song is about a couple who could never fully open up to each other and knock down their walls. I actually love this song and think Miley did really well with it. |
