Emeli Sandé – Clown Lyrics 12 years ago
Umm...I guess she's saying that she doesn't want to sing anymore and the industry people are only giving her one option; sing or go out of business. "i'd be less angry if it was my decision" Also, I think she's struggling somewhat. "Clear the way for my crash landing" and "As soon as I win"
Finally, she's saying that when she sings, she is a clown, messing up and she would laugh if she were watching. The fact that it is "behind the glass" is saying that just, sort of, doing it-singing-and has no connection with the people in the audience. And she has to put on a clown's mask and put away all of the emotions she's feeling and just sing.

Mika – We Are Golden Lyrics 12 years ago
There are a lot of meanings/interpretations to this song and I'd would get bored if IO had to write them all; hell, it would turn in to an English essay! So, I'm going to go with what I first thought of it... Ok... here's what I think!

The first part "Teenage dreams in a teenage circus/Running around like a clown on purpose" BECAUSE YOU CAN. I, personally am a teenager and life is a circus. You run around like a total and utter plonker because you can. Live while you are young. "Who gives a damn about the family you come from/No givin' up when you're young and you want some" Seriously. In our class form, we have people who can speak Arabic, people who are gay, lesbians, people who come from foster families.... Whatever. They will be accepted into the boy's breaktime game of Football or whatever. Who gives a damn about the family you come from? It also gives a sense of unity about being a Teenager, 'cos "Teenage circus"; anybody can, sort of, join (Argh I'm making a mess of this, damn it.) "No givin' up when you're young and you want some". I'm guessing this bit is because adolescence is quite a hard time, you know.. being in the middle, and you, as a teenager are not hesitant to break the boundaries, to explore a little. Jeez, I don't know, "some" could refer to sex, life, drugs....

Okay next paragraph, phew, thank God.
"Waking up in the midday sun
What's to live for?
You could see what I've done
Staring at emotion
In the light of day
I was running from the things that you'd say"
"Waking up in the midday sun". Well, I for one will happily sleep until 1 p.m! "What's to live for?/ You could see what I've done". Do any of you Golden Oldies know of a time when you were, say, 14 and you, as a mark of rebellion, of teenager-ness, did something bad, like maybe... broke a window or graffittied or something? If not, try to relate, else you won't get this part. So you've just kicked a ball through the window. "What's to live for? You(The parent) could see what I've done" Well, hell, yeah, you've just broken a window. What's to live for? Mum/Dad can see, plain as plain what you've done, you don't need a lecture or a telling-off.... you did it on purpose!!!! "Staring at emotion" Love this bit. To me, this is you then sitting down, staring at (The adults') emotion yet not feeling any as they shout or whatever, and sort of nodding appropriately while your mind is elsewhere.
Chorus:
Woooo nearly finished
"We are Golden" That just hit me right here. We are not what you think we are, we are Golden. We are not the stroppy teen that meets the eye, we are a lot more than that and, sure, maybe we hide it from you but we are, underneath struggling with issues that seem so important to us at the time, yet when we look back on them, we laugh. We are golden. We are amazing. We are misunderstood.
I was a boy at an open door
Why you staring
Do you still think that you know?
Looking for treasure
In the things that you threw
Like a magpie
I live for glitter, not you" So, this is now Mika relating to adults, I guess... He was a boy at an open door. This is probably him saying that he was a teenager at the open door that is the world and the many secrets and stuff waiting to be discovered and learnt. "Why you staring? Do you still think that you know" Are you too old? Have you forgotten what it is to be a teenager? Do you remember how truly awesome it was? "Looking for treasure
In the things that you threw
Like a magpie
I live for glitter, not you" I guess this is a teenagers way of feeling that they need to disagree with their parents. Looking for treasure in what you thought was junk. "I live for glitter, not you" I, personally don't feel this way about my parents but this part is saying that, well parents are out to ruin a teenagers life. In my adolescence, I do not care about you, I care for the treasures and new things in the world, the glitter.

Now I'm sitting alone
I'm finally looking around
Left here on my own
I'm gonna hurt myself
Maybe losing my mind
I'm still wondering why
Had to let the world let it bleed me dry Ok. I don't completely get this part but I guess it is regrets. He's finally looking around, and wondering how he could be so dumb. Or I'm gonna hurt myself could be referring to some teen's (unnecessary) need to cut themselves because suddenly they feel isolated and alone (An argument with friends?)

I love how this song ends with "We are golden" I think that really means something. I think this song is aimed at both adults and kiddies, although more kiddies because it is a mix of memories and present stuff.... Well, this is the first time I've written one of these...I guess it went okay...:)
