| Smog – Hit The Ground Running Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
Not as simple as a criticism of the rural south. In the context of the relationship, he's not leaving the country, he's hightailing it away from the girlfriend. He uses lines like "only cowboys and southern gentleman... who bend to their dead ends." to justify why he's leaving. essentially, it isn't about them. he started to get so conflicted with his feelings for her that he eventually cheated. now he's saying this country life they decided to escape to is no longer good enough for him. |

| Smog – Teenage Spaceship Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
In the context of the Knock Knock relationship, this song is about him wanting his "freedom" back. He's thinking about his early recording days and teenage years. He's romanticising who he was as a young person, not pinned down by the constraints of "moving to the country to start a "family" or have a "baby" He's pining for those feelings again. He swore he'd never "lay like a log or bark like a dog." He wants out of the relationship. |

I think you are close, except the cheating and this having anything to do with High Fidelity. High Fidelity was just grabbing at things related to Chicago. |

yep. this song is about their memories of their dysfunctional childhoods. physical and sexual abuse. haunting. if you listen to the next song on the album, the knowledge of the trauma and the thoughts of jealousy start to take over. there's always some turtle snapping... |

This song so clearly isn't about Chan Marshall cheating on Bill Callahan. Remember that this song is in the context of an entire relationship. This song isn't quite at the point where things go bad yet. This song is about childhood memories: He witnessed his father physically abusing his mother. She was molested by her father. "how could I stand and laugh with the man..." - homeboy has to meet her father at some point. |

| Smog – No Dancing Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Clearly a big showy way of saying the relationship is starting to come apart at the seams because he can't stop himself from being who he is. This is the most important song on the Knock Knock album. | |
| Bill Callahan – All Thoughts Are Prey to Some Beast Lyrics | 12 years ago |

C'mon guys. This is just like a lot of his other songs. The whole thing is a metaphor for the feelings one experiences in a relationship. This is the very same premise he covers in No Dancing. At first he's warm and happy with his soft thoughts until the Eagle (infidelity, jealousy and the need to be free) comes in and takes over the soft feelings. Bill breaks horses, he doesn't tend to them, |
