I think the song is about a gambling addiction. The chorus especially links to this, he talks about "dreaming of the things that we could be", which i know is a common affliction of gamblers. He's also praying for success. Counting stars literally references a row of stars on a slot machine. At the same time, he seems to be arguing with himself between the verse and chorus. He goes to and fro about wether he'll go out again, and after a procrastination, goes out to gamble. Other lines tie in with this - Make that money watch it burn (take) - Hope is a four letter word Of course simply my interpretation, I've watched friends suffer in similar circumstances. Obviously an opinion based on personal experience is biased, but ther you have it |
