The character being described in first person isn't necessarily John. It's a "creep in a t-shirt", i.e. a drug dealer.
He's probably being questioned by the police and he's claiming his "innocence" by saying that he doesn't "recall the crime." By saying "I don't know what I know, but I know where it's at," he's claiming that he doesn't know what the police are talking about, which is the first thing an accused criminal always says.
"I just don't like to pretend that I could ever be your friend" means he really doesn't like the interrogators' company.
