In 1985 Sting moderated his comments about "Peanuts": "I've lived the life I was lambasting. Now I see it differently. I was a fan of Rod Stewart. I loved his voice. He was a great showman. And I could see him decaying as an image. I was very resentful of that. I wrote that song as a fan. Having now lived the life of a pop star, and sometimes a decadent pop star, I see how easy it is to fall into that trap and also how easy it is to throw stones.
