Audrey Assad – O My Soul Lyrics 12 years ago
"As soon as He was approaching, near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God [a]joyfully with a loud voice for all the [b]miracles which they had seen, 38 shouting:

“Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord;
Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
39 Some of the Pharisees [c]in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.” 40 But Jesus answered, “I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!” - Luke 19:37-40

"You will go out in joy
and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
will clap their hands."-Isaiah 55:12

"The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
3 They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
4 Yet their voice[b] goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world." - Psalm 19:1-4

Verse #1: The existence of creation glorifies God. God exists.
Verse #2: When God brings the light of truth into our hearts it makes everything so much clearer and it exposes sin and fear for the utter foolishness that it is.
Verse#3: Satan doesn't leave anyone alone with his temptations to worry, but God will never stop exposing his temptation for foolishness. We need to keep turning to him like a little child looking to a parent for how to feel or what to think about something. God will never stop guiding us.

Question: What is the lie that the singer is telling their-self, and why does loving God solve the problem?

Possible solution: The first verse is just wondering at how all creation glorifies God. Perhaps the singer is thinking, "Don't lie to yourself, if you withhold love from God, the earth will still praise him for you. God doesn't need your love, and you won't hurt anyone but yourself by staying away. You were made for God." The second verse. "Deep in your heart you feather and tar your folly and fear." This is what is happening, the singer is systematically disproving folly and fear to their-self. "Expose them all for the fools that they are and the world becomes clear." Don't harbor any love or pity for your past sins in your heart, but turn them out, exposing them for the fools that they are. Don't lie to yourself that they are profitable, love your God more than your folly and fear and kick them out by God's grace.
The third verse. Satan has no love for those he torments with worry. When we give in to temptation, sometimes he worries us that we'll fall in again. God is there and he will never stop alerting us to our wavering peace in the presence of the prelude to a wrong step, and if we do step wrong, He is still there to keep refining us and proving our folly and fear as feather-and-tarred foolishness. He will never desert us in that because of His love for us, as long as we keep turning, and facing Jesus and relying on His grace to help keep us close. So, soul don't lie to yourself, that God isn't powerful enough to keep you from sin, Love your God. By Love, I mean rely on His grace, don't ignore your peace, and spend time with him, (commune with Him) deeply and often. This will keep you from sin. WHEW! Deep song!
