There’s no 100% “correct” lyrics, but these are the most cohesive I could come up without just making stuff up. - First verse depicts the immediate realization of things going sour. There’s almost a denial, or bargaining aspect in the Kubler-Ross cycle. - Close my eyes, Feel me now, I don’t know, how you could not love me now. You are low, and I feel down to go, over there, and I want you, love, to know, You can hide, nowhere, from the way I feel… - Kevvy realizes he needs to leave because his relationship is loveless, no pun intended, and not working out. Chica’s moods have soured and there’s no joy left - Kevvy feels sad, and wants out, but wants chica to know, in her blasé attitude, heartbreak is an inescapable part of the human condition. - Second verse is the time immediately after, of severe heartbreak: - Turned my head, into sound, I don’t know, when I (lay down/wake up) on the ground, You will find, (with your head down), it hurts to love, Never cared, let the world turn hearts to thought, You will see, oh down, oh the way I do - Everyone knows even healthy forms of love involve some form of pain heartbreak and sorrow, but it’s not really a choice - the greater world makes it happen. Love does not come from rational thought, rather from heart to mind, and Kevvy’s opinion was that it was better to develop emotions without conscious resistance or care of consequences. The complexity of introspective emotions is being channeled artistically with the swirling guitars. Kevvy, an artist, can express his complex feelings of heartbreak better with music than words. He wants her to see the world as he does. He wants her to at least understand the pain she’s caused. - Third verse is Kevvy feeling a bit angry/bitter, but is realizing it’s actually over for him. The feels were too much, but he absolutely has to distance himself. - You will wait, See me go, I don’t care, when you’re left up all alone, You away, when I turn my eyes around, Overheard, that you want me next to you, Overheard, that you know, oh, the way I see - There’s probably some lasting emotional connection that is complicated, and chica really thought he’d easily forget and return - but things are too harsh and he’s unfortunately already gone, realizing how negative things have become, that heartbreak has already set in. and that it has emotionally affected him too much. Sounds like before the chica’s realization that he is actually gone now, she was possibly taking him for granted and making him severely unhappy without realizing. Now that he is actually gone she begins to see his pain, and can better understand and feel the way he does. - The last verse is the first stages of acceptance on the Kubler-Ross cycle. - Close my eyes, feel me now, I don’t know, how you could not love me now. You are low, and I feel down too, Over there, and I want true love for you. You can hide, oh now, oh the way i do. You can see, oh down, oh, the way I do. - Despite everything, he wishes chica love. Instead of having long-standing resentment, he hopes she finds someone new to truly love, as he considered loving her, in a healthy way she couldn’t feel towards him - maybe because of life circumstances, maturity, or maybe some disconnection between the two - possibly even his own immaturity in getting high all the time and bankrupting Creation Records in taking years to finish his music. Who knows? However, she knows it’s over and can emotionally retreat as well. Whatever relationship this was, it really didn’t work out other than being inspiration for possibly the best song in the history of rock music, so in a sense it actually did work out for me because I like this album a lot. - I love you to death Kevvy, but thanks for breaking Kevvy’s heart, chica. |

I think the line "On that hill, forever still" is about idealizing aspects of a past relationship in one's mind. The hill represents the curve many relationships take. At first it's nothing, and then it builds and peaks before it starts to destruct. In our memories we can live at the top of that "hill" forever, whereas in the real world things continually change. |
