| Duran Duran – Last Chance on the Stairway Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
I agree with other commenters this song is about sexual frustration. There are too many lyrics here that suggest it. One lyric in particular jumped out at me this morning: "last chance on the stairway" I would hate to think Simon LeBon is being THIS direct, but what is a stairway for? What does one do with one? One goes up and down it. Up and down, up and down, up and down. It's all a stairway is for. Long shot - but could the stairway in the song be a reference to the hand movements performed during masturbation? Seems overt - but sometimes Simon is. |

GREATEST DURAN DURAN SINGLE EVER That is all. |

Love this one. I've been through this one personally. Here, Simon's schooling a delusional stalker who tried to do the flip on him (pretend and say to others he is actually the one stalking her). This became a common game in the 90's. Trust Duran Duran to blast it into the open. I've actually used their lyrics against one guy. I literally told him, "You must realize: my obsessive fascination is in your imagination." And it was. |

| Duran Duran – Bedroom Toys Lyrics | 12 years ago |

Simon visits his first adult toy shop/swinger boutique, cuts a knowing eye this way and that at what he sees, gets ripped off, and leaves feeling bitter. Nothing to see here, folks. That's what he gets for not coming to my house for that instead |

No special meaning. The master of 007 theme-style lyrics trying his hand at an actual 007 theme, and accomplishes it beautifully. It's one of SLB's typical gigolo-encounter-with-femme-fatale storylines, nothing more. And worth every second. One of the best singles DD ever recorded! |

Sex. Even from the beginning as a 14 year old I knew this one was about Simon's sex organ. Self-appreciation in the highest form. Bravo, SLB :) |

My take is this song was more a morale booster to DD themselves here in the Wendy Laister management era than to their fans. "Get up... you can do it... believe in yourself, do it one more time." This said, to me this song is emblematic of everything wrong with the Laister Era. The song's an orange juice ad. Not worth of Seven/Ragged Tiger DD at all. |

| Duran Duran – (I'm Looking For) Cracks In The Pavement Lyrics | 12 years ago |

As a DD fan, I've always felt this song was about being forced to be outgoing and public when you'd really rather stay inside and be creative. When I was in my teens and first became a Durannie, that was my take. Now, as an adult, I think the song is still about exactly that, but with the added bonus that once he got out of the house and went to "whatever the party was", Simon encountered a stunning woman and realized that emerging in public and attending this party was actually A VERY GOOD THING. :) This woman is the "something" that he's just found "on my mind, breaking open doors he'd sealed up before". I've certainly had nights of a head full of chopstick and not liking it... then forcing myself to be social and suddenly meeting That Person, and being very, very glad I came. That's what I think this song's about. |
