| The Offspring – Self Esteem Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I can almost relate to this song, and I love how the music and words don't necessarily go together. I don't really thing this song is about physical abuse or any underlying significance though. To be honest, I feel like the whole "meaning" is mapped out in the actual song. He's being used by this girl, but doesn't wanna break up because his self esteem is so low, he figures he needs a girlfriend no matter what. | |
| Passion Pit – Take a Walk Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Every single time is hear the phrase "take a walk" in the song, the only thing I can think of is the phrase "take a long walk on a short dock" which mean's, ya know, walk off the edge of the dock. | |
| Megadeth – Sweating Bullets Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I heard from an interview that this song is about the best friend of the lead singer's girlfriend. Funny how different people see the song different ways. Regardless, this is a really really cool song | |
| Watsky – Who's Been Loving You? Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I think this song is just about almost-foolish optimism. George is Jewish on one side of his family, and Christian on the other. This isn't the only song he sort of jokes about it in. But he's talking about how basically everyone loves him, and dedicates the song to Bill O'Rielley and Draco Malfoy in the end, maybe giving love to people who don't get any? Either that or rubbing it in his face. The title, Who's Been Loving You? almost implies that you NEED someone to love you, and George clearly has plenty. Maybe he's telling you to go out and find love? I like this song a lot, despite what it means though | |
| Franz Ferdinand – Call Me (Blondie cover) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| This is so much fun to listen to, Alex's voice is perfect for this song. Call Me was made to be covered by Franz Ferdinand, seriously. | |
| Franz Ferdinand – Bang Bang Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
I adore this song. It's basically about the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The Black Hand is a reference to the assassin (him holding the gun) I'm not totally sure but I think The Black Hand was the name of some club the assassin belonged to. Curiously enough, when Franz Ferdinand (the band) was starting out, they played a number of "secret" gigs under the pseudonym "The Black Hands" |

| Franz Ferdinand – Right Action Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
I believe this song was based on a postcard one member received at some point from a friend, but I'm not 100% sure. Otherwise, I feel like this song is a too-happy-on-purpose kinda song that's passive aggressively accepting a relative or lover back. "Come home, practically all, is nearly forgiven" Self explanatory. Like he wants them to come home, but still wants them to know not EVERYTHING is okay "Right thoughts, right words, right action!" I feel like this is some sorta montra that the narrator repeats in his head, like, sure, he's inviting this untrustworthy person back but for niceness sake, remember to think the right thoughts, say the right thoughts, and preform the right action, no matter the cost. "Almost everything could be forgotten" Kinda the same as the first line, like a welcome with wariness "How can we leave you? To a Saturday night On a Sunday morning, good morning" I'm pretty stuck on this one, but it sounds like the narrator made a mistake (by leaving their relative/lover) and then finishes with 'good morning.' almost smart-alack-y. Like, 'I messed up, huh? Oh well, good morning!" "But sometimes, wish you were here, weather permitting" Again, he loves this person, but not enough to want to be around them 24/7 'This time, same as before, I'll love you forever" This line always strikes me as funny. Due to all the welcoming back, it's clear he didn't "love them forever" last time, so as this person is coming home, it's almost like, there's a chance whatever happened last time will happen again, and the narrator doesn't mind a bit. Another thing about this is Alex commented that the album is a bit like a story. Happy and optimistic in the beginning with Right Action, and sad and dramatic to finish with Goodbye, Lovers and Friends (which may be about a funeral.) Either way, this song is phenomenal, as well as the entire album and I'm so glad I preordered it :D |

| Franz Ferdinand – Take Me Out Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
The two snipers idea is interesting, but to me, it almost sounds like a conversation between two people "Don't you know?" "I don't know" "Take me out." Maybe the thing that the second person doesn't know is that the first person wants to go on a date with them, but they're complete opposites, (maybe one's out of the other's league) so to be socially acceptable, they have to keep their relationship a secret, so its very delicate, an example being: "If I wane this could die I wait this could die I want you to take me out If I move this could die Eyes move this can die Come on, take me out" Like if people see them or one of them slip up, their relationship could be revealed and he'd "die" (not really though, I guess) |

| Lenka – Everything At Once Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I like how she said "ugly as a toad" and things because sometimes, when you really, really don't like the skin you're in, you just wanna be anything you're not, or everything. I really love this song | |

UPDATE FROM THE SOURCE: Alex said on Twitter that this song could be loosely based off of The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe |

| 100 Monkeys – Keep Awake Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| This song is really self-explanatory, but one thing I love about it is how upbeat the music is despite the lyrics and meaning. It's a strange but cool music trend | |
| Watsky – Sloppy Seconds Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| The perfect roadtrip tune. I can imagine packing an old Subaru with my friends, and working out our problems with Gatorade and cheap sunglasses and singalongs. A little summer love story, imperfect and perfect and flawed in the best ways. The imagery makes me feel all fuzzy inside. This is my favorite track on the album, I think. | |
| Cake – I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor cover) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| One of the greatest covers I've ever heard. John's voice, while it may not appeal to everyone, is so iconic, and his delivery is unique, but it doesn't butcher the original. Five stars. | |
| AJJ – Skate Park Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
This is a real great song, because as always, AJJ uses the most unanticipated of language to pump out an amazing story One of my favorite lines (of many) is "feel the pain of self improvement" because it illustrates how, essentially, hard work pays off, despite the pain one must go through. My favorite verse is the last one though: "It's a sin and a shame to keep yourself from knowing The things that make you beautiful and complete. When we lie to ourselves we can feel our insides rotting When the world should be bowing at our feet. Stick to your guns and don't quit until you fell like changing them." As someone who's gone through bullying and general self hatred, I love how amazing this sounds. How you really, really can feel your insides rotting, the loudness and sloppyness of this song masks one of the best messages I've heard. Classic AJJ and I adore it |

| The White Stripes – Seven Nation Army Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| This song is so dynamic, I can't get enough of it. To me, It almost sounds like he's fighting a disease or addiction? Either that or he's working feverishly towards a goal. Whatever the case, he's clearly determined to do or finish something important, and this is a really great workout song. | |
| Regina Spektor – Two Birds Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
I see a few parallels in Caged Bird by Maya Angelou Caged Bird was about slavery, and how one bird was free and almost took its freedom for granted, and the caged bird could never have freedom, but sings of it anyways. Maybe the bird that doesn't fly feels like it can't? Perhaps like it's not free enough to, unlike the one that flies away? |

| Franz Ferdinand – Evil Eye Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
This song is kinda self explanatory, the narrator can see things (probably shadowy creatures) normal people can't see, and it drives him insane. The way I see it, he finds different people react to him different ways some people get a freak out of him - people who think he's a weirdo (maybe know about what he can see?) some people can see what I can see - other people with his "gift," who he probably sees as allies some people wanna see what I see - people (maybe therapists) who are intrigued with him and want his gift some people put an evil eye on me - people who are either suspicious of him, or have pinned his gift with the name "evil eye" which is how he seems to refer to it ("I have the evil eye/I see into your soul...") |

| Franz Ferdinand – Goodbye Lovers & Friends Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
GOT IT. This song is about a man looking on at his own funeral Don't play pop music/You know I hate pop music/Just sing amazing godless grace Basically saying not to play pop music at his funeral Don't wear bright colours/You know I hate bright colours/I never liked you for the way you dressed/Anyway Telling them, basically, to wear black to his funeral Goodbye lovers and friends/So sad to leave you/When they lie and say/'This is not the end'/you can laugh as if/we're still together/you can laugh about it all The chorus is just him saying goodbye to his loved ones I hope you didn't bring flowers/Hope you didn't write a poem/Hope you remember every fight/I know I could be noxious/Or occasionally cruel/But only to the ones/I loved Telling them not to bring flowers or sappy poems to his funeral, almost admitting to being an awful person in life, but trying to explain that he only acted rudely to the ones he loved, the ones he's saying goodbye to, the ones at his funeral Don't get inventory/Don't fake your memory/Don't give me virtues that I never had/Don't get sychophantal/We never were sentimental/I know I took more than I ever gave He's, again, admitting that he was a bad person, reminding the people at his funeral not to dress up the fact that he was an awful person, just saying "remember me for the man I was, not who you wanted me to be." I don't need to be forgiven/But a moment from the living/That's the only thing I ask Obviously, he's again saying that he doesn't really care that he was that bad, he just wanted to be remembered by the living. Goodbye lovers and friends/So sad to leave you/When they lie and say/'This is not the end'/you can laugh as if/we're still together/but this really is the end/ Again, saying goodbye for the last time, the VERY last time, he says, because this really is the end. |

| Franz Ferdinand – Goodbye Lovers & Friends Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I love this song, and I think it's a super great closing for Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action. It's clear this is a sort of Goodbye, and the mood of this song is completely different than Right Action, which was silly and fun and hopeful. It's a somewhat tragic end of what was a great beginning and I absolutely love it |

| Ben Folds – Bitches Ain't Shit (Dr. Dre cover) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Literally the funniest song | |
| Jack White – Missing Pieces Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| This is such an awesome song, but it took me a few listens to kinda piece this together. I love how the last verse just ties the song up, how she was taking "pieces' of him (His nose, arms, legs, etc) because she can't live without him. But rather than live with him, she took the parts she wanted and left him alone with the parts that essentially made her leave. I remember after listening to it for the third time, I just kinda got it, and I leaned back just like, "Huh, that was actually kinda deep, man." | |

| AJJ – American Tune Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I love this song. At first he sounds snarky and racist and sexist and stuff, but once it gets to "I recommend it highly" It's just like, showing how people can't choose the race/sexuality/gender they are and how some people have better rights for no reason but how they were born and, I just really love this song. | |
