This song is about Adam's frustration with the music press. "Paper Covers Rock" is a double entendre. It refers of course to the rock, paper, scissors move, but also means "newspaper (or, media in general) reports on rock & roll." |

The only "Memphis and 53rd" I could find in the US on Google Maps is in Lubbock, Texas, which also works with the "desert" line. Streetview doesn't show a gas station there though- just some odd-looking houses on a remarkably flat plain, with some nice-looking fall colors around. Maybe they weren't necessarily sitting on that corner throughout the whole narrative of the song. |
