I think it's basically a lamentation about not having free will. Like we all make the same mistakes and choices and other people think they're being original or deliberate in their life when maybe they're actually not. |

It sounds to me like the speaker is telling their loved one that they want to leave. The loved one is sad and distressed by this, which makes the song's speaker more sad and distressed than they already are. I'm guessing at the second half of the song, the loved one dies or falls into a deep depression. Metaphorically drowning in sorrow, or literally the speaker drowned them to break things off or to end the loved one's internal conflict..? |

Makes me think of everyone having a loving relationship around him, and he's fallen for someone and this person either doesn't know or doesn't love them back. He's trapped in his unreciprocated devotion and he feels he's withering away inside, and will keep doing so because they love that person too much. |

It sounds like he's describing himself as the stranger. The stranger being someone filled with depression and feeling disoriented by how dreary and pointless the world is. |

I read this and I imagine the speaker standing in embers, and tempting the flames to rise. They're admiring the flame's swirling 'rolling and turning' movement as they burn. It's like they prayed for the flames, and it is happening, and the smoke from their body is like their soul being releases and cleansed. In the end it sounds like the 'you' they refer to is being choked out by the blistering smoke. Could it be a final act of extended cleansing? |

I think it's about someone who's staying in isolation from others. Maybe to escape their prying eyes or opinions. It sounds like people have a view of them that is false. The person feels that they are conflicted about going out or staying in, being themselves or being what people want to see. They are internally lost, and feel like they are asleep sort of, that life is a dream and the world is a rude awakening. |

Btw, I believe the part "Don't fight, we're sinning to what you said.
To show you the lovely portions" should be " Don't fight what's hidden on the inside, to show you the love that pours out". |

I'm guessing that the song is about him telling someone (I assume a girl) that she is lost, because she's denying her true feelings. He's saying that he will guide her, and show her the love underneath the armor. |

In short, it sounds like him and an important friend had a rough patch. They didn't communicate for a while, he felt lost and he felt like he should say something to repair the damage done, lest it be too late to mend their friendship and they drift beyond each others' reach. It sort of suggests that without that friend their lives would be very different than if they were together, by saying the very last phrase. It's like a hopeless recognition of the avoidable failure. |

This song, when I read it, plays out like a story. Its sounds like a woman with hopes that were of becoming something greater- popular, talented, or maybe a love, or something. the song suggests celebrity related- but those hope crumbled. She looks at the stars in the sky, thinking she should be one... she could be one. But it also seems like it hints more in a darker way that she aims instead for different "stars". Velvet burns wrists while restraining might mean a shallow cut..? Also the repeated city phrases makes me think of the distant lights of a city at night. Many many bright dots in a black scattered silhouette.. kind of like the sky and stars. It sounds like she jumped off the edge of a building and saw the windows whisking past her. Sort of like a descension/ascension thing. The city was her sky, she became a star.
This could be so completely off from the song's true meaning, but I envision this when I think about the lyrics. |

Why wait for the chance to pass you by? Why see them possibly be happy, and then think of all that could have been? You can't take back things, or put actions where there weren't any before, because time is always drifting out of our grasp. But you have the here and now... for now. Do whatever seems right, do what will make you happy, and don't regret your decision. |

I feel like it's about being unaccepted possibly, or hated, and then pushed aside because of being unwanted by others, so they'd be forced to be alone in their mind and body. Sounds like they hurt themselves mentally with the thoughts of past imagined or real inadequacies, and they feel cripple by this. I'm assuming that by saying 'until they're free', they mean suicide..? Maybe running away from the oppressive atmosphere in some sort of form, that might take their mind away. |

It sounds like the persons yearns to go to their grave, one forgotten and away from where people may see, but instead acknowledges nothing is going to feel fulfilling enough and goes on anyway. I think this person wants to live an in between life, just outside the crowd and around darkness, like they maybe feel more alive and empowered in misery..?
That's my interpretation. |
