I love this song, and what it means. It's so emotive and brings me to tears, making one of my favourite songs, because of the power in the lyrics and music. This is my interpretation and explanation of the lyrics, hope it gives a better insight to this wonderful song: I think it's about a guy(possibly Oli Sykes) and his friend who lost her boyfriend who she really loved very suddenly. When her boyfriend died, she was never the same again, and slowly died inside. The onlooker had to watch her fade away and wished he could do something to bring her boyfriend back, just so his friend could be whole again. Lyric Explanation: 'We stare at broken clocks, the hands don't turn anymore' When her boyfriend died, time can became meaningless and every day the same. 'The days turn into nights, empty hearts and empty places.' Empty hearts from the loss of her boyfriend, and empty places from the lack of him being there. 'The day you lost him, I slowly lost you too' When her boyfriend died, she died inside too. 'For when he died, he took a part of you' At this point the song suddenly gets more powerful, which signifies how she would never be the same without him. 'No time for farewells, no chances for goodbyes No explanations, no fucking reasons why' He died suddenly and without saying goodbye :(. 'I watched it eat you up, pieces fallen on the floor' The guilt and sadness eating away inside, she's falling to pieces; an emotional wreck. 'If only sorrow could build a staircase, or tears could show the way I would climb my way to Heaven, and bring him back home again' One of the most emotive lyrics of the song: He would do anything to end the sadness over the boyfriend's death: he would build a staircase(to heaven) or if only his tears would show him what to do, he would go and fetch her boyfriend from the dead and bring him back to be with her - where he belongs. 'Don't give up hope my friend, this is not the end' Don't give up on life, don't let the death of him be the death of you too. [chorus] 'Death is only a chapter So let's rip out the pages of yesterday Death is only a horizon And I'm ready for my sun...' I think this is from his point of view. The boyfriend's death is only one chapter of her life, so let go of what happened in the past, death is darkness, but the sun will come up eventually; girl's friend is ready to be happy again. 'I'm ready for my sun to... I'm ready for my sun... I'm ready for my sun to set' This is from her point of view, and she's saying that she's ready to end her life; the sun setting being her dying. 'If only sorrow could build a staircase, or tears could show the way We would climb our way to Heaven, and bring him home again' (x3) They would both do anything to end their sadness over his death, to have him back again. 'We would do anything to bring him back to you We would do anything to end what you're going through' How they're both desperate to make her better again, to bring him back to her. 'If only sorrow could build a staircase, or tears could show the way I would climb my way to Heaven, and bring him home again' Yeah I said this already so.. 'I would do anything to bring him back to you Because if you got him back, I would get back the friend that I once knew' He would do anything to make her the way she was before, and not the shell she now is, without him. ~end Hopefully, this gave you a better insight into what this song means, and what it means to me.
