I see this song as pointing out the pointlessness of conflict. The (Two) minutes to midnight is a pretty clear reference to the doomsday clock and the the imagery has a lot to do with apocalyptic scenarios. |

This is a beautiful song, remarking on the tragedy and reasons surrounding why someone might view suicide as the only way or even as a noble action.
