I think you hit it right on the head. It's that mix of dissatisfaction with the world and your place in it, with the happy façade we put on to face it. You secretly hope that someone will delve deeper and see past the façade, but most aren't willing or just don't think to. Love this song. Depressing lyrics, but the music gives the song an opposite, invigorating effect. |

| Love listening to this one when I'm feeling "meh" about the day. Nothing like some good ol' funk to liven the mood. To me it's just about having whatever fun you can to make it through that daily grind. For Anthony, that's humpin' de bump. | |

Love this song. As someone who enjoys interacting with others but still tends to be kind of a loner, I think "Starshine" really captures how I feel in darker moments. I agree with those who believe it is about depression. Specifically, depression caused by loneliness. You want to have someone to bring you out of this sadness but worry that you never will ("Starshine, never gonna find me"). However, being alone becomes your comfort zone ("Stand easy with myself, for myself"). You try to socialize, but sometimes find it difficult to engage in social situations and end up feeling like a loser compared to everyone else (Jumping up, I'm low, low, low, low. Show me down.) That's what the song means to me anyway, and that's why I like it so much. Makes for good mood music, should be used in a movie. |
