Stereophonics – Mr. and Mrs. Smith Lyrics 8 years ago
A song my missus and I can't come to agreement on...

She reckons it's a song about a woman cheating on her husband. Having secret rendezvous under false names. Cynical bitch!

I reckon Mr and Mrs Smith are really Mr and Mrs "so-and-so", but their Friday night hookups under false names are just to add spice to their dull marriage: "Every night there doing just the same
But they meet every Friday night under false names".

Stereophonics – Just Lookin' Lyrics 8 years ago
I think this song is about everyone (most of us) who dreams of breaking away and living the life we want to live, rather than what society expects of us.

Instead, we play it safe because we're told - "The more you fly, the more you risk your life" - so we go through life and fall into the mould - "A house I seen another could'a been" - Then someone tries to wake you up - "You drenched my head and said what I said" - because we're always full of our own advice we don't follow.

So I'm just looking, it keeps me smiling - Because if we didn't live so vicariously through others, we'd cry at the tragedy of a wasted life.

Reverend And The Makers – Hard Time For Dreamers Lyrics 9 years ago
The song is about asking that one person if they will be there no matter what the World or life throws at them.
The nod to The Beatles' song "When I'm 64" says it all.

"A French-kiss in the chaos" - What an image!

Manic Street Preachers – Found That Soul Lyrics 10 years ago
My take on this great song, is that it's simply about getting older and wising-up to the world.

"Show me wonder, you can be sure of" - Go on, try and impress me. Show me something I've never seen before.

A few lines remind me of George Carlin's "When you're born you're given a ticket to the freakshow" and how he describes how he doesn't get down looking at the state of the world, by becoming a spectator.

"Sick and pale but
Strangely alive
Broken blood vessels
Line my cheeks
Reflections look bad
And somehow unreal" - I'm not old enough to have the red cheeks of an old man, but it comes to us all. Reflections often do look bad with age and the image of ourselves as we age is more often than not grounded in our primes.

"Found that soul" - I think that's suggestive of an inner contentedness age brings. Despite being knee-deep with all the scum of the world, in a self-made vacuum your soul can be peaceful.

And lastly "Show me wonder" - Seems like a final plea, to feel rejuvenated by wonder a younger person or kid might feel.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Desecration Smile Lyrics 10 years ago
I'd say it's about looking back on past failed romances.

"All alone, not by myself" - The feeling that although you're "with" someone, you're still alone with that "girl bad for my health". "I've seen it all through someone else" - You've grown from those times, recalling those memories from your life can often seem like you were someone else back then.

The "terror bird" for me, is that feeling when things are starting to go wrong, the terror of it falling apart.

The chorus, especially "The love I made is the shape of my space", seems that despite failure the shape of your space or your life now is forged around love.

"I love the feeling when it falls apart" - Relief at sadness is coming to an end.
"I’m slow to finish but I’m quick to start" - Stubbornly refuse to let it finish, even after lighting the fuse of the relationship's end.
"Beneath the heather lies the meadowlark" - Heather, grown in a wilderness where you're lost and alone after a relationship's end, but there's a meadowlark, there's life and hope - Another way of saying every cloud has a silver lining.

I sing this to my 3 month old daughter to get her to sleep - Works a treat.

"If I were the wiser of the two" - I'm not a patch on her mum.

Manic Street Preachers – Your Love Alone Is Not Enough Lyrics 11 years ago
Having recently got back into The Manics, this song has made my wife a fan too. She said this is one of "our songs".

Her explanation, which I think is a good meaning to the song, was that it's not a song for her to me or vice versa, but rather a song to our ex's, that their love was not enough.

They're the "ghosts" that "loved us the most".

They "said" the sky would fall on them, but through their insincerity their "eyes stayed blue".

"I could have shown you how to cry" - Someone whose love was sincere could show those people how to cry.

Hope you catch my drift, it means something to us at least and a great song to sing together in the car.
