| Taylor Swift – Clean Lyrics | 11 years ago |

This song is the most raw on her new album. She employs a simple melody and uses vivid lyrics. I think this song is basically her moving on from an unhealthy relationship. In the beginning of the song she is so broken by the break up, or the 'drought', also known as the absence of that person. After a bad relationship, you feel dirty, "like a wine stained dress". The stain isn't easy to get off, just like the memories aren't easy to forget. And then, ultimately, you go through the storm, or the part where the emotions and pain take over. Suddenly, the storm eventually stops, and you come out of the heartbreak and sadness a new person. She compares a drug addiction to an addiction to a person. Eventually, after going cold turkey and embracing the storm, you come out anew from the situation. There's temptations to go back to that person because you miss what you thought you had or who they were at the beginning. You find that it's okay to be alone and therefore you're "free" of that person, and finally clean. |

I think it's really cool Hunter debuted this song at the Grammy's, not only is it a huge risk, it takes a lot of guts. According to Hunter, this song is incredibly personal, and tells the story of him being a "dorky musician." However, the message of this song extends farther than his experiences. To me, this song speaks to people who have been bullied and didn't fit in. The overall message is positive, and encourages people who just don't fit in or feel alone to hang on, because it gets so much better. People who are bullied, as Hunter says, feel invisible, and the crowded hallways are the lonliest places because you see everyone talking to their friends, and you just stick out like a sore thumb. In the first stanza of the song, Hunter gives the image of someone walking through the hallways and just feeling totally invisible, and although you try to fit in, you can't. The feeling of frustration and hoplessness are shown through the lines of: "you've been trying for so long to find what your place is." And he points to the fact that it's not YOUR fault, and it's theirs through the line: "in their narrow minds there's no room for anyone who dares to do something different." In the chorus, he reminds the listener that it does get better, and people's minds do change and differences should be celebrated. That the words hurt, but it does get better. He reminds the listener that someday all of the pain they feel and bad days will just be memories, and they won't hurt as bad and you will find happiness and acceptance as long as you hold on. In the second verse, the mood changes. All that the person feels is terrible because of feeling alone, really isn't. Being different isn't a curse, and it's okay to stick out and you don't have to hide. Because one day you will find acceptance, and people who find the things that everyone else around you finds as a curse as a blessing and they'll find your bravery for sticking through the bad times. In the bridge, Hunter looks to the future. He describes all the "labels they give you just cause they don't understand if you just look past this moment, you'll see you've got a friend." Labels are cruel and awful, but if you hold on, you'll find the people who've been where you are and are rooting for you. That was really in depth and maybe didn't make sense, but oh well. This song means so much to me, as a person who has been bullied all throughout their life for having a disability. I promise, to anyone out there who feels alone because of what they say, or that you stick out, you'll find that as you get older, it gets so much better. As Hunter says, "there's so much more to life than what you're feeling now." |

| Taylor Swift – I Almost Do Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I think this song is about someone who truly broke your heart. You have every detail memorized about that person, from what they do when they're home. And I think it's about just wishing you could call them, but something stops you. I think what stops her is because that person hurt her so bad, she doesn't want to put herself in that position again. The guy keeps trying to reach out to her, and it takes everything she has not to reply. But she has to keep her distance because she doesn't want to end up hurt again. She has dreams about being with that person again, and she almost wants those dreams to come true. What stops her from making those dreams become a reality is that the guy hurt her bad enough that she couldn't risk saying another goodbye. |

| Maroon 5 – Sad Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I think this song is about breaking up with someone and wondering if you made the right choice. You miss them, and you're pretending to be okay, but you're not. You're holding onto a thin thread, and it takes everything in you not to run back to that person. You start to have doubts of finding someone like that again, and thinking about what could've been if you stayed with that person. But in the end you made your choice. | |
| Taylor Swift – Begin Again Lyrics | 12 years ago |

This song is about that first date after a tragic relationship. Getting back into the dating scene is a harrowing task because sometimes you're still hung up on your last relationship. When she go on that date the first time, all she sees is her insecurities and all the things her ex didn't like about her (high heel). She walks in with the notion that love is useless because she was burned in her last relationship. She has a fear of putting herself out there again, because she doesn't want to end up with a broken heart. At first she's reserved because she's weighing her options and wondering if it's all worth it. Then she finds herself enjoying herself because she hasn't thought about her ex, and she's surprised because this guy actually likes the same stuff she likes and is interested in what she has to say. This guy respects her, and does small actions she notices like pulling her chair out for her, that mean the world to her because she's seen the worst out of guys. By the end of the song, she almost brings her ex up, but she realizes it doesn't matter because it's past. She's starting to see that she can be happy again, and that it's possible to fall in love again. It's a beautifully crafted, yet simple song. |
