Mumford & Sons – Lovers' Eyes Lyrics 12 years ago
also wanted to say. When you are first starting out with someone, everything is great and beautiful. and if you cant have them, it tends to stay that way. thats why I think the lovers eyes is an actual separate lover than his wife. Cause it is a curse to feel all those things with someone new when you are already in a relationship you are happy with.

Mumford & Sons – Lovers' Eyes Lyrics 12 years ago
I am going through a situation where I am in love with my husband but I am falling in love with someone else as well. Everyone involved knows. I feel the artist was going through something similar. I'll break it down how I related to it.

"Well, love was kind for a time
Now just aches and it makes me blind"
He didn't see it as a problem at first. He thought he could just crush on this other woman and still have no problem. But now he aches to be with her all the time and its hard to focus on whats important, his family and/or wife.
Thats why he says
"This mirror holds my eyes too bright
I can't see the others in my life"
The mirror being the other woman who is just like him (in the sense of what he wants and the fact that he can be himself with her etc)

"Were we too young? Our heads too strong?
To bear the weight of these lover's eyes.
'Cause I feel numb, beneath your tongue
Beneath the curse of these lover's eyes."
The weight being the consequences of the situation. the jealousy of his wife and the fact that he cant focus on anyone else but his lovers eyes.

"But do not ask the price I paid,
I must live with my quiet rage,
Tame the ghosts in my head,
That run wild and wish me dead."
Hes talking to his lover saying that he is angry that he cannot be with her, but for his wifes sake cannot go on about what he goes through without her. The ghosts are probably the thoughts and desires he had about leaving his wife prior to this now lover and he has a hard time getting those thoughts out of his head even without his new lover.

"Should you shake my ash to the wind
Lord, forget all of my sins
Oh, let me die where I lie
Neath the curse of my lover's eyes."
Still talking to his lover. Saying if you should take all the things I came to you with, the pain, and the struggle I had for you and just brush me off, you arent the person I thought you were. So "forget all of my sins" cause you were just a liar and a manipulator.

"Cause there's no drink or drug I've tried
To rid the curse of these lover's eyes
And I feel numb, beneath your tongue
Your strength just makes me feel less strong"
Hes saying he cant get her out of his head. he feels weak and numb. Both of them want to be together, but the lover is strong for him by his side. Its painful not being with someone you want to.

"And I'll walk slow, I'll walk slow
Take my hand, help me on my way.
And I'll walk slow, I'll walk slow
Take my hand, I'll be on my way."
Saying that he may leave his wife. Be it from the problems they already have or for this new lover. but he will walk slow to make sure that this is what he wants and that he wont regret it. I believe this could also be interpreted in a different way. See my husband lets me indulge in my fantasy with my lover. He lets us "Walk together" if you will, just to get this "curse of the lovers eyes" out of our system. and if this is the case, that the artists wife lets him indulge in this lover in some way, he means he will walk slow with her by his wifes side. Not rushing getting rid of her. Walking back to his wifes side if you will, but he will walk slow by his lovers side until the time comes when he has to leave this new lover.
"Take my hand, help me on my way." I think that could be on my way out of the door of my wife, or help me get back on track with my wife.
