| I've heard this song so many times I just started playing it as background music and quit really listening to the lyrics. Today I clicked it on and I feel like I finally know what it's about. I've been coping with the fear of death recently, and that's what I'm interpreting this song to be about. Take the lyrics literally. The red cape I believe is symbolic of feeling invincible. We all feel that way when we're young, don't we? And then something changes. Some experience reminds of us our mortality. This song, in my humble opinion, is about the shock of having your sense of invincibility ripped away by a near-death experience, and then learning to live with the reality. Eventually, if we're lucky, we find peace. We let it go. We move on and live our life instead of fearing the imminent and ever constant threat of death. | |
