| The Beatles – Taxman Lyrics

I like to think of the count-in, spoken by Paul McCartney, as the taxman himself both counting his money and counting in the song - and the whole album, since this is the first song. The song is about how seemingly any action you take in life can be taxed in some way, and death does not provide an escape. The very fabric of ones life seems to be taxes, at least after completing a return. And the very fabric of Revolver - its numeric structure - is really controlled by the taxman, who profits from every beat. |
