| Chris Cornell – Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart Lyrics | 5 years ago |

WOW. I am in awe of the way you express your thoughts and I couldn't agree more. Those are many, many of the same thoughts I've had since his death. When you look at them, they are SO completely opposite. That, I believe is the key to the drama. Myself, I know what it's like to pick the wrong partner. They are not bad people, innately, but the combination of two people who are sealed together through sacrament and have very little in common is a recipe for disaster. Chris was so quiet and emotional. VK made her living being a mouthpiece for PR, very no- nonsense and tenacious. He was very yin, she was very yang. Maybe he saw in the beginning that she could be helpful to him, professionally, but was not emotionally intelligent enough to know that she was a wrong match for himself. He grew up on the road, he lacked real life experience to learn and grow in the way of relationships. She, on the other hand, would likely pick the same situation considering the money and fame, regardless of him being a good match or not. Like I said, recipe for disaster. No one's to blame but I can understand how he felt like he was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Just the fact that his voice was failing him at the end shows how much emotional turmoil he was experiencing, let alone medications he felt he needed to make it through the day! He knew he made his own mistakes, too. His life was curated by himself, regardless of how much VK wanted in. He still opened the door and that was a heavy burden to bear, in all the ways of which you stated so succinctly, above. Not much love but loads of drama and I don't think that in this situation, he could have avoided the games. It's alot to live with, ontop of the deep sadness he felt at losing Andy, et al. *Life Lesson: choose a life partner who has a ton in common with you or else you will just drive each other crazy!* |

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that this song is about fucking. And alot of it, too. IMO, it's in the same vein as "More Than Words" which is another song about fucking. The funniest thing is that both songs have been and will be played at weddings until the end of time. And I truly believe that most of the time, those people that choose to play them at their own weddings don't understand what they're really about. LOL!!! Props to JM for this lyric "YOU gotta show show show show me" like he's just gonna lay there while she does all the work!!! Masterful. |

I hear a nod to Amy Mann here. What a great lyric: "You are hiding in your mind Working all the time Trying to make it better than you got it You been spending all your time Searching for a sign That's never gonna look the way you want it" I love that he is introspective yet willing to look bad here. Very liberating, not just for himself but for anyone who gets it. Reminds me of "You get there by realizing that you ARE there." (Buddhist saying) |

| Dang, I wish I could delete the last comment. I saw that someone else had said this song sounded like Lindsay Buckingham and upon further reflection, I revoke that statement and stick to Simon and Garfunkel ALL the way ;) | |

I think you're onto something, about his parents here. I think he's saying that while you're young make the most of making mistakes. Be surprised at what you like and enjoy your parents and others being worried about you to the MAX hehe I love these lyrics: "No you fight is not within Yours is with your timing Dream your dreams but don't pretend Be friends with what you are Give your heart then change your mind You're allowed to do it 'Cause God knows it's been done to you And somehow you got through it" I think he's saying to just let yourself BE and enjoy whatever life's processes you're experiencing. Perhaps he's giving advice to his own child, in a way that will allow their creativity and self-esttem to flourish and thrive. "To thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man." - William Shakespeare |

I forgot to add that in general, the whimsical picking style is reminiscent of Lindsay Buckingham, also. I know there's more...anyone? |

*Thank you for the lyrics correction, above!! How cool is it that I get to be first in posting about this song? I am so cool. And it's even been more than a year. Many of you may have felt the same way I did when I first heard this song. Why would he want anyone else to speak for him?? I didn't really know how to feel about it besides weird. But after I heard this song about five or six times, I thought to myself, this has to be simple. I'm just making it hard....what the fuck is he saying?!? And I believe that what he's saying basically is this: that there's no one of his generation, who gets airplay these days, who really speaks to him or for him through their music. He favors vintage songwriters aka 'heroes in black and white' (he even throws in a Simon/Garfunkel chord progression here). He yearns to find someone present-day who he's passionate about. Who can make him feel as if he's a part of one human family aka 'ain't supposed to make me feel alone' or make him feel 'free'? He's not gonna be 'mad about it' and realizes he just has to 'learn to let it go' just like anything else that plagues him as opposed to letting it ruin him. A 'rolling stone gathers no moss' references 'the cover of a Rolling Stone ain't a cover of a rollin stone' in the respect that Rolling Stone is a trash publication, run by a brat frat (hehe my opinion) unlike what it used to be, back in the day. When you were on the cover of RS, it used to mean something!! Unlike today, where you find anyone and everyone on the cover. He is lamenting that there's plenty of moss to be found. Maybe he's saying it's not the movers and the shakers, it's the money makers. It's not heart and soul, it's moneyed control. (I stopped reading it when they featured a 17-yo Britney in a sexy David LaChappelle spread. Creepy.) All I have to say about this is: what a drag it must be to be such a phenomenal songwriter. I have no idea why you in particular, are so unique in this area. For whatever reason, you are blessed and WE are blessed by your music. If you have found *anyone* who inspires you, old or new, count yourself as fortunate. In general, just count your blessings. Keep doing what you're great at. You are part of a new movement and you are inspiring those around you, far and wide. Statistically, you can't be alone. It's impossible. Hold the flame for thousands of songwriters to arrive and inspire us all with whatever they're inspired by and whatever insights they care to share about what it means to be human. And please don't ever stop. Amen. |
