I have two views on this song but they're somewhat interconnected. First, I think this song is more about a guy feeling as if there's nothing to love about himself. He kind of doesn't want the girl to like him because really there's nothing much to like and he'll end up bringing them both down. Second, what I got from the lines: So don't let me be your guiding light. 'Cause that was never my part. I'm not the sun, there's no guarantee. I'll burn out hard like a spark. It could also be that he doesn't what to love her because she doesn't love herself. It's like she depends on him to guide her and make her complete when that isn't his job. What'll happen when he leaves? Will she be lost? Maybe he just wants her to know herself before getting further into the relationship. |
