To me, when he says "I want you to burn my bridges down," he is not asking the woman to cut him off from contact, he wants her to not let him retreat, or back out in anyway. He obviously knows he keeps on running away every time they get close, even though they love each other, so he wants her to make sure he never runs away, that he is completely burning with love and not scared of it. |

The definition of skinny love, that I've have heard of, is when two people love each other but are too shy to admit it, although they still show it. Metaphorically, I think that is exactly what the song is talking about in my opinion, and also based off of personal experience. "Come on skinny love just last the year" is basically both of the people in the relationship, who are too afraid to admit their own feelings, but hope it lasts so long that the other will admit theirs, and someting more will become of their 'skinny love'. "Pour a little salt we were never here" reminds me of how easily this relationship can vanish because niether participant really told the other how they felt. And "Staring at the sink of blood and crushed veneer" depicts the physical and mental pain of beating oneself up for not saying what they feel. etc. etc. etc. |
