Stars – Sleep Tonight Lyrics | 10 years ago |
this song is so sexy |
Metric – The Twist Lyrics | 10 years ago |
We were too wasted to close the window Friends and family looking in to my only hiding place The rhythm of a strangers skin (I think this is a metaphor but it does concern her sleeping with random strangers. She feels most comfortable sleeping around and feeling the rhythm of a strangers skin.) Infidel to die for What I am doing Will happen in the morning When the mirror won't recognize me (She feels like she's going against religion by sleeping around. Even worse she's going against herself. When she wakes up in the morning and looks in the mirror she won't recognize what she's become) He holds a certain gesture When we're loving to ask each other Do you want it Do you want me I want it, it is you You are where I want to be (She looks for love or reassurance in the throws of sexual contact. She associates love with sex so she hopes these people love her. 'You are where I want to be' is such a sad, fleeting feeling because when they're done she isn't where he wants to be anymore.) Who is he? (oh) Why would I (do) Hitch a ride? (the) I can drive. (twist) Who is she? (oh) Why would I (do) Hitch a ride (the) When I can drive. (twist) (I think this talks about how she goes home with other people even though she drove herself. Perhaps she's thinking of excuses why she needs to leave with them) Somebody put me back in school I forget everything I used to know How to leave the boy behind Without having to watch him go (She sleeps with these people and before she used to be able to do it effortlessly but now she starts to care about them because this is the closest she has to a relationship. She doesn't know how to kick the boy out in the morning without watching him through the window.) (I understand the story of the song but I still don't understand the relevence of 'The Twist' but maybe the twist is just a metaphor for sex) |

Archive – The Pain Gets Worse Lyrics | 10 years ago |
It's about someone that can't accept that it's over in the relationship and is mourning and playing the conversation over in their head. The pain gets worse with every thought. |
Sharon Van Etten – Serpents Lyrics | 10 years ago |
For those of you that have the version from the Walking Dead [Serpents (demo) on Spotify or Serpents (basement) on iTunes] The lyrics are different: It was a close call Sitting in the back of the room with a ball I had thrown at you, But you didn't know. Lookin at my black eye. I feel safe at times. Certain emblems Tell me it's time Serpents in my mind Looking for your crimes Everything changes I don't want to mine to this time You enjoy sucking on poison I will belong to someone other than you I had a thought you would take me someday And listen on Serpents in my mind I am searching for your crimes Everything changes In time I was lost in my mistake Now I'm looking for my Intentions, Even I've been at the dark, dark sea Better run, Better run Serpents in my mind Looking for your crimes When everything changes There's no more time Possibly mine. Nights, Days Walking on my street at night I feel a little safe, a little in fear this time, My hand in clutch, You've got a knife? Well I've got a gun and Serpents in my mind, Looking for your crimes, Everything changes, Looking for my crimes, Twisting in despair |
Forest City Lovers – Doorsteps Lyrics | 10 years ago |
it's "the darkness fall upon our doorsteps" |
Breaking Benjamin – The Diary of Jane Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Great assessment. I think that the 'Diary of Jane' is a little different. I don't think it's about the perfect person I think its that he want's to be in this persons life. Something significant, someone you'd write about in a diary. |
Soap&Skin – Big Hand Nails Down Lyrics | 10 years ago |
It's 'half of a big ship- drown' |
Bring Me the Horizon – Deathbeds (feat. Hannah Snowdon) Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I feel like this song is about being in love with someone that you don't necessarily want to be in love with. 'I watch you like I'm gonna tear you limb from limb' sounds like he isn't particularly happy while seeing her. 'Don't try to fight the storm. You'll tumble overboard. Tides will bring me back to you' seems like even when he tries to get away he can't. Most of the lyrics evoke a feeling of not being able to control his feelings but they're a bit morbid and sung as if he's weak and resentful. |
Soap&Skin – Mr. Gaunt Pt 1000 Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I think this song is about god and losing faith. "I fell in love with where you were" or "I fell in love with your world" either way she's talking about heaven and god. "But I know it's just the sky"- she doesn't believe in god or heaven anymore "I don't know where will I go?" - she's lost now. Alternatively this could be about someone she loved that passed away. She was in love with wherever they were but now they're gone (to heaven) it's just the sky and she doesn't know how to move on. This song is beautiful and tragic. |
The Naked And Famous – Young Blood Lyrics | 10 years ago |
can someone make this a video |
Akira Yamaoka – Cradel of Forest Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I'm pretty sure this song is about Wish House Orphanage in Forest World |
Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton – Our Hell Lyrics | 10 years ago |
There’s a pattern in the system, (they've formed habits that are detrimental to their relationship) There’s a bullet in the gun. (The relationship is ready to die. she's prepared to end it) |
Bring Me the Horizon – Can You Feel My Heart? Lyrics | 10 years ago |
The whole song is basically about him trying to find different ways to escape his problems through drugs, alcohol, or people. All the questions he asks are directed at someone. He’s trying to fins someone who will fix him. He’s talking about how he tried using drugs and alcohol to get rid of his ‘demons’ The higher I get, the lower I'll sink- (when he’s high he thinks too much which brings him down) I can't drown my demons, they know how to swim- (Trying to drown his sorrows in alcohol doesn’t work because even while drunk they still come to him) |
The Kills – U.R.A. Fever Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I'm pretty sure this song is about a couple meeting in Vegas. He buys the girl a drink and they go outside by the water and he finds a coin. They go down to the Rio which is a hotel/casino in Vegas. He puts it in a slot machine (also known as a fruit machine) and he wins. (maybe he buys a round of drinks). Living out of a suitcase because he's staying at the hotel. They catch the Las Vegas love bug and sleep together. (dying to have you over, clown around and break up) She plays the role of his 'lady luck' (pick you out a number, thats our arrangement) The next lines basically mean that they sleep together more but he should get what he can because she'll only want him when he's a fever (a hot winning streak) |
Tori Amos – Bouncing Off Clouds Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I just want to point out that this is one of the five "Doll" personas off the album. This song is sung by Clyde who was based on Persephone (maybe thats why she mentions the wrapped in metal wrapped in vine) The song is basically about picking yourself after a breakup. The mint icecream line definitely seems like its trying to make something fresh out of something dead. The failure to respond line was maybe visiting an issue in the relationship? Bouncing off of clouds and getting on her silver is like her being her own 'silver lining' like bouncing back stronger. The blue umbrella line, to me, is like a person who is sad (blue) but puts on a smile even though they're prepared for the worst (rain) |
Utada Hikaru – Be My Last Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Mother, why is it That a day will come When you’ll have to break down everything you built up? My collage has become scattered But I can’t throw it away My hand can’t grasp anything Even when I was holding your hand Be my last (4x) Wherever you are, be my last I can't be your companion, I tried my best I fell for the wrong person But it wasn't a mistake My hand can't grasp anything, How far do I have to go before I reach what I dreamed of? With my hands (4x) By my hand, be my last Instead of us being bound together someday I just want to see you for an hour tonight. My hand can’t grasp anything Who’s been playing the adult here? Be My Last (4x) Please, be my last |
Now, Now – The Pull Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Find a thread to pull and we can watch it unravel (Things are coming loose at the seams, to the point where you could 'pull a thread' and it would fall apart.) The lines we both have sewn to form the fabric of a fragile home We'll spend a month apart, At least I know when you'll be coming home (They decide to take sometime apart because at least they won't break up for now) But this is just the start We'll find out who we are (By taking a break they're going to figure themselves out) A hint of light in the dark But only enough to keep from giving up (There's a tiny amount of hope for their relationship. Only enough to keep them from letting go) If I could go back to the start To break the pattern forming between us (She wishes she could go back and keep these reccuring issues from starting) |
Now, Now – Prehistoric Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This song is about a stagnant relationship. The singer is still invested in it even though she knows it's not going anywhere. I know this will mess things up tonight But god it feels so good to close my eyes I'll say that I've been trying to move on We both know I'm not (It's that point where you choose to close your eyes and go to sleep instead of staying up all night working on the fight. She says she wants to move on but she really doesn't.) It may be different now but the pattern won't wash out Covers up our eyes, leaves us knots and severed ties We follow new lines (Though they try to change things, they stay the same. Their situation blinds them and causes them to sever ties. They can't see they're moving in different directions.) I would trade this sleep for you in a heartbeat But this weather will not lift It leaves us shouting into cliffs without an echo Each day you come closer So close I can almost feel your breath on my shoulders But I know if I turn around you might run away again (She wants to stay up all night and work things out but she knows the clouds of their relationship won't lift. Shouting into cliffs represents putting things in but not getting anything back, even though you should. Each day seems like they're getting closer but when she lets her guard down her love starts pushing away again.) Stuck like those prehistoric mammoths in the ice Thaw me out and I won't close my eyes Stuck like those prehistoric mammals in the ice Thaw me out and I won't go to sleep tonight (They're stuck, frozen in this relationship. She's asking for her love to give her hope, to thaw her out because if he does she'll do anything to work it out.) |
Soap&Skin – Sleep Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I think this song about Endymion from his point of view. The reason it's called Sleep is because Hypnos (Sleep) granted Endymion eternal sleep with his eyes open so that he may see his love Selene (the moon goddess) forever also because Hypnos found him to be so beautiful he wished his eyes to be open so he might fully appreciate his beauty. Selene also wished him to sleep forever, she loved the way he looked while he slept and wanted him to stay young forever. I lay on the floor They asked me what I do tonight It answers Search for the moon (he lays on the floor of the cave in Mt. Latmus, he searches for the moon aka Selene) No, don't follow him Swallow him, swallow em Swallow it (His fear of losing her to another lover) I swear, I will be good to you I swear, I will be good to you I swear, I will be I will be (He says this as he falls asleep) Time come hold me back I'll dream of what I've dreamed of And I dream of what I call love (He'll never grow old. He'll dream of his love, Selene) |

Sufjan Stevens – To Be Alone with You Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I think it can be interpreted either way but most people chose what they identify with. This song definitely sounds like it could be about love between two men. Thanks for your explanation! |

Angel is the horse. The thing she's missing, her heart, is the will to 'get back on the horse' |
