Sources say that in the mid-70's Walter Becker's then girlfriend was a huge Eagles fan and apparently she had been cheating on him which he discovered via "traces in their happy home". This song was a way for Becker to work out his anger towards her similar to John Cale's "Guts" which tells the tale of infidelity, that time between Cale's wife and fellow musician Kevin Ayers. |

I have read somewhere that this is Walter Becker on lead vocals on this track, but I think that actually may be Kenny Vance. This track seems to be a commentary about the turbulent 60's. |

Usually lumped in with the pre-Dan demos, I am pretty sure this was recorded, along with "Don't Let Me In",. after Steely Dan was an established band. Possibly recorded during the sessions to "Can't Buy A Thrill" or even "Countdown to Ecstasy". If it is from '72, they should have really considered releasing "Come Back Baby"/"Don't Let Me In" as their first single instead of the "stinko" "Dallas"/"Sail The Waterway" pairing. That definitely sounds like Denny Diaz on guitar on both tracks. I can't tell whether that is Jim Hodder or Joe Dicepolo on drums, although I am leaning towards Hodder on that one. |

A bitter Becker/Fagen relationship themed song about someone reluctantly putting an end to an unhealthy relationship. Usually lumped in with the pre-Steely Dan recordings, but I am pretty sure this was recorded after they were an established band. "Don't Let Me In" (along with "Come Back Baby") sounds like it could have been recorded 1972-74. If it is pre-Dan, it could have been recorded in between the "Walk It Like You Talk It" soundtrack and "Can't Buy A Thrill". If that's the case, I can't figure out why they did not release this as a single, with "Come Back Baby" as the A-side instead of the miserable "Dallas"/"Sail The Waterway" single. |

Some sources say that is Walter Becker on vocals, although to my ears it sounds like Kenny Vance who did vocals on the "If You Walk It Like You Talk It" soundtrack from 1971. |
