Breaking Benjamin – The Diary of Jane Lyrics 12 years ago
I'm doing a music video for this one, so my interpretation involves taking some things literally and inventing part of a new story.

The singer is in love with Jane, who is resisting any affection he shows towards her. He desperately seeks her diary to find out what she really feels about her, but (here's the part I made up) she just talks about her depressing past. He burns all the pages to try to help Jane forget about her past.

"Something's getting in the way
something's just about to break"

I took the line "something's just about to break" mean that the singer is about to go insane from desperation since the situation is hopeless. The something that's "getting in the way" could refer to Jane's past which is preventing her from loving him.

Barenaked Ladies – For You Lyrics 12 years ago
It took me a few times of listening to realize this, but this song; as well as many of the Barenaked Ladies songs (that I've heard), is about drugs.

The singer is in love, but he doesn't feel like he deserves his girlfriend's love because he's helplessly addicted to some kind of drug. He feels guilty for hiding it from her ("in a book, in a box high upon a shelf in a locked and guarded vault"), and for the fact that he's wasting so much money he can't support them if they get married ("it's (poverty) your fate but it's not your fault"/"I would give you all I could ever give though it's less than you will need.")

But I could be wrong, since the REAL meaning is what YOU (the listener) think of it.
