I think that Buck was writing about lost love and the travesty of false aesthetics. I think the song meshes well with "Southern Cross", by CSN, except it is about a farm instead of a boat. Many times will we lose a love in our lives. I think the dog who bit the mother represents Buck's own father. His father was an inspiration for much of Buck's songwriting. I was in a bar in Nashville years ago and I ran into Buck's father. I asked him how it felt to be so influential in his son's career, but he was already passed out and didn't answer. I can't believe no one else has commented on this song. |
