I think that these lyrics and the instrumental status of the song are intentional. This is Radiohead we're talking about, people. Messing with people's heads is the end and means. If you want to go deep into this, you could say it's a commentary on how people search for meaning in everything, even using details that don't match up with reality. |

When I hear this song, I think of a Faustian play. The main character has something he desperately wants, will do anything to get. He goes through the story, makes horrible sacrifices, commits terrible deeds, and finally gets his desire. And finally, he sits there, and has to ask himself, 'Was it worth it?' |
