This song is all about Rosie J Bass who is the "lovely girl" who became involved with the "Catholic priest" a short while before the song was written. They were close friends with Wesley Schultz and have since sadly called off their marriage. The chorus: "Lovely girl, won't you stay..." is clearly from the perspective of the priest to Rosie whereas the verses are Wesley commenting on the relationship externally |
