| Gorillaz – Hong Kong Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I think it's very clear that this is largely about Hong Kong's handover to China. Lord, hear me now Junk boats and English boys Crashing out into the noise Electric fences and guns Where once there were junk boats and English boys, soon there will be electric fences and guns (China). You swallow me I'm a pill on your tongue Here on the nighting floor The neon lights make me numb Yes, it is about his being lost in the astounding maze that is Hong Kong. But it is also relating to Hong Kong being swallowed, like a pill on the tongue of China. Eventually, that it will be assimilated. And late in a star's life It begins to explode And all the people in a dream Wait for the machine Pick the shit up keep things clean Agree with an earlier poster. It is about Hong Kong dying, and the dream of relative freedom giving into the slow erosion of communism and limits on democracy. Kid hang over here What you learning in school? Is the rise of an eastern sun Gonna be good for everyone? Again, questioning what children are now learning at school. How long will it be until education is controlled? The latter half of the verse is fairly clear. The rise of an Eastern sun (China). Will it be good for everyone? The radio station disappeared Music turned into thin air The DJ was the last to leave She had well conditioned hair Was beautiful but nothing really was there Free speech and expression slowly disappearing. |

| Josh Pyke – Sew My Name Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Sounds like a great 'love song' to me. That special bond, trust between two people. "i am always thinking about you" - deep and genuine affection for someone. |
|
| Josh Pyke – Memories & Dust Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I'm not sure about the lyrics, but the actual sound of the song is one of hope and great potential, as if something really big is going to start. | |
| Delays – Hideaway Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I don't normally like the Delays, but I love this song. Mainly because of the lyrics. Agree with the person above. It makes me think of my best friend or my girlfriend who about the only two people I can rely on at the moment. Sort of like.. all kinds of shit happen around you and people let you down, but one person takes you somewhere else where you don't have to worry so much. It's a nice feeling while it lasts, and I think that's what the song is about. |

| At the Drive-In – One Armed Scissor Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Isn't it amazing though, whatever the meaning of the song (if indeed there is any) how some bands reach their peak with a certain song, or even moment... for me it's dissect a trillion sighs away will you get this letter jagged pulp sliced in my veins i write to remember 'cause i'm a million miles away will you get this letter jagged pulp sliced in my veins i write to remember... kind of sums up the abstract genuis of at the drive in, at times anyway. in 20 years from now they will be remembered for this song. |

| Gwen Stefani – Harajuku Girls Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
by panicatd181 on 08-14-2006 @ 06:59:28 PM This song is very annoying. Gwen Stefani is NOT f***ing Chinese!!! Get over it Gwen!!! I like Gwen, but come ON!!!!! First off, Harajuku (as said many times before) is a district in Tokyo, Japan And secondly, whats the big deal with her being fascinated by Japanese teen culture? For anyone thats been to Harajuku, they'll know it is actually quite an interesting place to hang out, because there are so many unique subcultures and fashion senses. I suspect the purpose of this song was to flatter the Japanese market by, um, mentioning something inherently Japanese, but whatever the case there's nothing wrong with being a foreigner in a city like Tokyo and finding it very interesting and different. |

| a song about depression and putting on a facade in public. "on in the backstage changing heads", just about the act he puts on in front of people and at shows.. while realising that everything is changing, this could be the rest for the sadness | |
| The Libertines – The Saga Lyrics | 21 years ago |

| Idlewild – Live In A Hiding Place Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| for anyone who has seen the video, i think it gives us a few clues. its set in the wild west, as if he is living in the past, while modern day people walk past, he is in black and white. he is also seen reading letters in his caravan thing. | |
| New Radicals – Someday We'll Know Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
while pondering why he cant be with the girl, he ponders life's questions as a disguise to his real questions. notice how he says why wasnt i meant for you and then in the last line he says "someday you'll know that i was the one for you", as if to say he believes they are meant for eachother, despite all the facts pointing in the opposite direction. two years later, your still on my mind, really rings true for me, the old problem of trying to get over somebody who meant more to you than anyone ever could, and still thinking about them months or years later i'm speeding by the place that i met you for the 97th time tonight.... as if he is obsessive about this, he reminises about when they first met, like he would love to be back there and live through it all again, but instead all he has are memories. |

| Jimmy Eat World – If You Don't, Don't Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
we once walked out on the beach and once i almost touched your hand - the fact that getting with this girl was something he never expected to happen, that even to touch her hand was a big deal oh, how i dreamed to finally say such things then only to pretend - he obviously told her how he felt, then pretended against it don't you know i'm thinking? - it switches time perioud a lot i think, one moment he's talking about how he has felt in the past, the next in the present. this one is like he is starting to think about her again after they broke up driving 405 past midnight you know i miss you ninth and ash on a tuesday night i would write to you from museum mile toast to you: your whisper your smile - once again, despite the fact he might be far from her, or may not have seen her for a while, he's still toasts to her whisper and smile, and plans to write to her. Also the fact that he misses her up the stairs at the wheatherford a ghost each place i hide - he's tried to get over her, but has so many memories that he cannot hide from her "ghost" i left you waiting at the least could we be friends? should have never started ain't that the way it always ends? - the fact that they tried to be friends afterwards but it didnt really work, and how most relationships always end the same i.e. in break up and heart break on my life i'll try today there's so much i've felt i should say but even if your heart would listen, doubt i could explain - he feels so strongly, and theres so much he wants to tell her, even though they have broken up, but he doesnt know how to and doubts he could explain even if she would let him so here we are now a sip of wine a sip of water someday maybe maybe someday we'll be smarter - saying that maybe someday they could get back together i'm sorry that i'm such a mess i drank all my money could get, - he is a mess after this break up, drinks a lot to try and forget how much she means to him took everything that you had and never loved you back - that he thinks she maybe got the opinion he was using her for her body or sex but yet he loved her for so much more would you mean this please if it happens? won't you get your story straight? if you don't know, honey why'd you just say so? i need this now more than i ever did if you don't know, well honey, then you don't - the general chorus, his confusion between how she feels, if she doesnt love him then why was she with him and would she mean if it ever does happen again, the confusion of not knowing how she feels/felt and why she would lead him on if she never liked him much in the first place... just my thoughts, basically its the meaning i'd like to take out of it, cos its the way i feel about stuff. |

| The Goo Goo Dolls – Iris Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| yeah, it always reminds me of my ex girlfriend, probably meant more to me than anyone else, and the lyrics in this song sum up things very well, amazing song, too bad it reminds me of hurtful times. | |
| Idlewild – Suicide Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| is this an idlewild song? | |
| Idlewild – Live In A Hiding Place Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
yeah, reading the above things i've come to this conclusion: its about a guy (probably roddy) who has felt strongly for someone and then been hurt, he still thinks about her and would be with her again if he had a chance, he also finds he has to live in a hiding place in order to keep his feelings to himself, almost as if he is avoiding her and hiding from her. He is talking about another relationship at the same time that didnt mean anything really to him or at least didnt compare to the main one in this song. "the more i try... the less that plans will help me comprehend again" the only thing i can think from this is that he is trying to come up with a plan to get her back but that.. i dunno! something like that. after reading your thoughts, this song has added meaning now cos i can actually relate totally to it, if it is about what we think its about. it could also just be about not taking chances with women as he is scared of getting hurt again after a past relationship, so he lives in a hiding place? i prefer my first theory, or even a mixture. :) |
