To me, this song has always been about a break-up and the singer is not only trying to come to terms with but trying to let the break-up settle (with the "two's for a while but then one has got to leave, that's it. I ain't lying and I won't ask you please") it seems that the he or the other person is somewhat resistant of the break-up ("slowdown, it's hard enough to get along, slowdown, we'll never ever get along") and then he eventually says that the other person shouldn't want him back anyway ("let go, It's so hard to fill me in, you'd better run as fast as you can") There's definitely another meaning to this song, but this was sort of my interpretation of it. |
