I think she's talking about a guy who she's hooked up with, probably drunkenly, and maybe she's friends with him also. He likes her, perhaps a lot, and she knows it. In the first verse, it's like she's describing their initial encounter...she gives in to her vices (alcohol and drugs and her attraction to him) ...She's insecure but it doesn't matter. The more she drinks the more she feels okay about their interactions. She kind of likes him too, but she thinks/knows she's messed up and therefore doesn't call him to encourage anything, even though she wants to. In the second verse, she refers to the aftermath of their hook-up. She still "feels it"; some kind of attraction and warmth toward this guy. She starts to let him see the real her, but quickly retreats into herself. This guy likes her a lot, and it scares her. In the third verse, she's stubborn in her choice to keep him out. The last two lines: I can't give you what you want/I won't give you what you want...It's like at first she thinks she really *can't* give him what he wants...Then she thinks about it, realizes she can, but realizes what that would entail, and edits...she won't. |
