I have a friend who has done DMT a few times and found it to be amazing, and I've always been curious about it. She has offered to take me to a DMT ceremony (or tea party as they call it) and be my guide. This song makes me think of that. DMT is a chemical that occurs naturally in the human body (among other plays), and is supposedly released to the brain at birth and at death. Perhaps it's a doorway in to the "afterlife" or whatever comes after dying (or before being born). When I hear the song, that is what "the unknown that surrounds you" is -- the experience of DMT. A greater connection to things outside of ourselves, or to nature: "the branches of the trees, they will hang lower now." Another thing many people have said they have experienced during DMT trips are encounters with other beings/entities. The line "When they knocked on the door looking for you" makes me think of that. Beautiful song. |

@[feliciathefool:27540] I'm sorry to hear about your loss, that must have been really hard. I like your interpretation. There is definitely an element of death, but not the dark, scary, final kind of death. More like a doorway in to something else (a greater universal connection/awareness, I like to think). I noticed the similarities to Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" too... it helps that it has the line "time after time" in the song. To me this song is about a guy who is in love with a girl that is unavailable. They get to share fleeting moments together and have a connection that reminds him of the feelings of excitement he had when he first fell in love as a youngster. He also sees such long term potential that it reminds him of his parents' relationship. When they do get to see each other it's intense and magical, but in those times he can only wish for her to open up and let it happen... unfortunately she is not willing to leave the relationship she's in. Even still, he's decided that the love they feel in those brief moments is worth waiting for. |
