@[YESINOYES:39373] I agree to some extent. But there are clear christian references, too, to Chrisitanity. "Sad preacher nailed upon the coloured door of time." Colour, as in the sense of pretense, makes a perfect fit with Martin Luther nailing his theses illustrating the hypocrisy of the church. "Coins and Crosses" being what churches are all about. I continue to fail to see why the instrument of torture and death should be revered. I have never understood that. It's like symbolizing Martin Luther King Jr. with a rifle. On resurrection morning, none of Yeshua's followers were worshipping before the cross. He didn't defeat the cross. He didn't come down as he was mocked to do. He defeated the TOMB. |

Jon Anderson said that "You" was a reference to God. I'll attempt interpretation setting that as my polestar. I respectfully and partially dissent from the common interpretation of romantic love. This song should include all kinds of love, but if you stop there you are falling short. I'll give a reasonable interpretation of many lines, enough to show consistency, but I will leave many unexplained, because I am not precisely confident in all of them right now, (you just can't force these things) or I think there is value in other readers building on what I have started, and because it is a quite long song It would be easy to mistake the feel of the song for romantic love between humans, but the song lyrics are very clever and indicate something deeper. Let us remind ourselves that feeling deep spiritual significance produces love--not just sexual, but for all of humanity. "There'll be no mutant enemies, we shall certify." Mutant indicates you have changed your enemy--dehumanization. Now, "seeds of life" sounds a lot like reproduction, but Jon tells us it is never actually achieved because this momentary "answer to the dream" is complete merely in the "sight of" seeds of life. And recall? The flowers have been "stayed," another biological and romantic reference. It is clear to me that Jon intends for me not to mistake this song for romantic reproductive love. We must stay the flowers because we must sense "all the themes." An "aim" should be straight, but this one spirals, without a foundation. I'm afraid we didn't just fly too close to the sun for two long, we're spiraling down having lost that course--to singularity? We can return to a movement we once had and regarded highly "Coins and crosses never know their fruitless worth" Churches and organized religion are impediments to this experience. They're supposed to assist in achieving it, but sadly I don't think they usually do. "All left dying, rediscovered Of the door that turned round" There's another reference to a door later in the song, a door that turned round due to its colour--which I mean in the sense of pretense as in colour of law describing false arrest. The cord of life is broken, inside the earth. (we now only can momentarily glimpse the seeds of life) And the world passes by, not caring and not understanding this. "And you and I climb over the sea to the valley" Climbing in the sense of flight, gaining altitude, is a way to traverse the sea. Deep spiritual significance is often described with a metaphor of flight. But this will avoid the ocean maid who revealed our emotion. Emotion is difficult affair--it interferes with reason. But I need deep reasoning skills to understand this masterpiece of lyricism. And emotion keeps us from being our best, too, even as some aspects of life get misinterpreted. Love is not well understood in the framework of emotion. If you have an ear, LOVE IS A STATE OF BEING. If you refuse to consider love in an emotion framework and instead think of it as a state of being, your life will change, I promise you. For the better, guaranteed. God IS Love. The coloured door is a reference to the pretense of the Catholic Church, probably, but could just be references to many organized churches. Martin Luther, or various equivalents, is the sad preacher. The reference to time means the problem Luther tried to deal with is not transient, but persistent. Jesus himself fought it. It is being fought today. "Insane teacher be there reminded of the rhyme" Try telling your religious friends that a rock musician teaches in a song, show them these lyrics, and they are likely to tell you it is nonsense and both you and the author are insane if you think it actually means something. But if you don't search for God in unlikely circumstances, you'll miss Him altogether, that I assure you. My favorite line is next, worth repeating. "There'll be no mutant enemies we shall certify" Follow the "insane" teacher and the sad preacher and it won't be long until we certify no mutant enemies. "In the end we'll agree, we'll accept, we'll immortalize, That the truth of the man maturing in His eyes" The keys to the Kingdom, my friend. "All complete in the sight of seeds of life with you" "And you and I climb clearer towards the movement And you and I called over valleys of endless seas" waters, oceans, seas, rivers are regarded in the interpretation of prophecy as the masses of humanity, who no longer interfere with my connection with God Which I will probably lose tomorrow if I am not vigilant to rekindle it, because this is a momentary answer to the dream, which seemed important and powerful, but I couldn't quite put my finger on; because the mind and nature of God cannot be easily expressed, and a more direct communication must be filtered through the subconscious mind. Is it not written you cannot directly confront Elohim? And if you speak of Him, and you don't sound like you're a bit off your rocker, Well, maybe you're not actually speaking of Him. All complete, within the seeds of life with YOU. |
