Brand New – Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades Lyrics 10 years ago
@[jennarad:5425]
Actually, it's an ancient Latin quote, dating from at least the 1400s, which was repeated during the ritual for inducting a new Pope.
It's been quoted many, many, many times in other places before as well.

The Beatles – Eleanor Rigby Lyrics 10 years ago
I haven't read through all the pages of comments (because there are so many!), so maybe this has been mentioned already, but:

This song makes me think of Arsenic and Old Lace. Except here there isn't any humour to compete with the creepiness.
(Summary for those unfamiliar: Two eldery aunts develop a habit of killing lonely old men who come to board at their home. They think that they're being nice by allieviating the victims' loneliness & rendering them "so peaceful". They're "good Christians", and that is repeatedly alluded to ironically.)

Eleanor Rigby sounds like she is a lonely -probably eldery- woman. Probably the church custodian, since she's cleaning the church up after a wedding.

Father Mackenzie kills her.
Possibly because he knows how lonely she is, and sees it as a mercy killing -just like the elderly aunts in Arsenic & Old Lace do.
He understands that killing her is at least legally wrong, whether or not he has any moral ambivalence, so he buries the body alone.

@[slumpywpg:4316] Yellow ribbons are to show support for the army. They're the ones that are often accompanied with that lovely slogan "If you don't stand behind our troops, go ahead and stand in front of them," on pins & bumperstickers.

He definitely says "Or best offer." It's at 4:18 to 4:20. Listen closely & you can hear it even with cheap speakers/headphones.

The Weakerthans – Slips And Tangles Lyrics 10 years ago
@[Rie:1974]-mix It's right at the VERY, very beginning (0:00) Someone says "We're rolling," (as in "this recording equipment is currently on & recording") in the background, just before the music starts. It's definitely in there, but I'm pretty confident that the "we're rolling" part isn't actually a lyric. It's not sung, & it's not spoken directly into a mic.
