This song is personifying my life to date. My interpretation is that its about a person who just wants to live a normal happy life but everything just keeps going wrong, or something terrible happens, and as soon as thats blown over something else arises to take its place, and they just want the agony to go away and asking is this really how his/her life is supposed to go, hence the chorus: Dear agony Just let go of me Suffer slowly Is this the way it's got to be? This is my general rundown of what this song says to me. Its really helped me through some tough times, as have all of the other songs Breaking benjamin have released. Ill be calling the main person speaking Sam and the other Alex, gender-less names because this can apply to either male or female in the relationship and straight or gay relationships as well before that misinterpretation arises. I live a chemical life I’m on a mission to try (Sam is either on anxiety or depression medication or a heavy drinker didn't think of that before Firefly31 and is working towards bettering him/herself but the first step is obviously trying which can be a hard first step) You went insane for the day I'll have to shove it away (Alex snapped under stress of holding up the relationship even though he/she loves Sam and he/she loves back in return but isn't putting any effort into the relationship and Sam retaliated by pushing Alex further away which a troubled mind tends to do even though the conscious mind knows its not the right thing to do) My only option is gone Smile as they break and they fall (Either they have broken up or the relationship is at its last bitter strands and Sam seems perfect on the outside to his/her friends, family, co-workers, etc but everything he cares about is "breaking and falling apart" You want a simpler life You can’t erase what was mine (Sam is going into a defensive mindset and spouting angry on the spot garbage that he/she really doesn't mean but as I said before a troubled mind does alot of terrible things) You must be out of your mind This was a simple design You fuck it up every time How could you leave me behind? (Sam's mind is going to deeper darker places and beginning to blame Alex when its himself/herself that is to blame for the stability issues) It’s all right, it’s all right cause I know what you want but you’ll just have to wait if I had it to give I would give it away (Sam is telling Alex he understands the problems and what he needs to do to improve himself/herself to solve the issues but is giving the excuse of "I can't fix everything in one day" even though his/her track record of self improvement is little to none) I'm livin' it up while I’m fallin' from grace there’s no way, there’s no way that I’m running away (Sam is content living the way things are/were before the argument and in his/her outside life he/she acts and seems as though nothing is wrong but his relationship with Alex is slowly breaking apart but deep down Sam knows that he/she loves Alex and isn't willing to let everything go) I’m used to making it worse made up of four letter words (Sam is giving in to depression and self pity and begins to think that he/she only can make things worse and generally with alot of curse words) you want to know what it was now isolated and gone (Alex is trying to understand whats going on inside Sam's head but once put on the spot and "isolating" the incident he/she can't come up with the words to explain) you fall apart at the seams I'll never know what it means (Alex is slowly being driven insane/angry with everything and is "coming apart" so to speak and being irritable and Sam doesn't understand why) try not to pull it apart You're aiming straight for the heart (Sam is trying not to hurt Alex anymore and everytime they argue Alex makes the most sense and everything holds true and sometimes the truth stings the heart in a volatile relationship) you had to be the worst for me (Alex has changed Sam to the point where he/she wouldn't fit with or be able to be with anyone else and Sam is starting to think its Alex that is the problem again) I don’t know what to say, so let me be and now I find you've left me behind I don’t know what to say, so nevermind! (An argument has gone completely south and Sam has shut out and can't think of responses and Alex threatens to leave but Sam doesn't know what to do or say besides...) You're mine! (This you can take it violently, romanticaly, frantic, depressing, or however you want to take it) Cause I know what you want but you’ll just have to wait if I had it to give I would give it away I'm livin' it up While I’m fallin' from grace There’s no way, there’s no way That I'm running away There’s no way, there’s no way That I’m running away There’s no way, there’s no way That I’m running away (But the end result is Sam wants, and needs Alex and will never "run away" from the relationship.
