I also, at first, thought this song was about Nelson Mandela. But then, some verses looked very odd: (But he's a coward, he's just playing a game). Then I payed more attention, concluded it was about drafting to vietnam war. Now I see this other interpretation, by Groujo that seems also very pertinent.
