| I love this song so much. The tone and lyrics are haunting. I hope Lana does more stuff like this. | |

| When I hear this song I imagine a girl growing up on a large beautiful plantation surrounded by a dark swampy forest. She is being raised up in a wealthy family, to do what is expected of her and what has been done before by her mother and her mother before her. She doesn't want to live this life were she can't talk how or when she wants. She discovers voodoo and becomes intrigued by the dark and beautiful power that the magic gives her. Her magic summons a spirit that likes her and dances with her and presents her with a crystal necklace. She meets a guy (or perhaps that spirit in human form) whom she likes. | |

JudasDenied I am going to have to disagree with you strongly. You are right that Louisiana is the state with the most voodoo activity, however you are ignorant to think that it is the only state that has voodoo. You can't pin an entire state of people as a bunch of bible humpers either. How ignorant and narrow minded are you? That is like saying all Californians are surfers! " It bothers me that Lana has fed into the aforementioned regional bias and also exhibits her outright ignorance of the culture/history of Louisiana because no, sorry kids, it does NOT translate in that way." Perhaps the song isn't just about the state of Mississippi or Louisiana. Perhaps it is deeper than that. |
