Well, I think it's obviously about rape - how a girl feels when being raped and how one can never forget what happened.. But yeah, I think one pretty much gets the meaning reading the lyrics.. So "Boys who rape should all be destroyed" just mean what is says... Rape is wrong, because of the act itself and how it makes the girl feel, therefore boys who rape should be destroyed. And just another thing, I really love the contrast in this song: it sounds so happy and light, but the lyrics are so dark. |

I saw an interview with the Raveonettes once where the interviewer asks what this song is about - Sune just answers: "groupies" .. So I guess that what he is trying to say is that groupies are his fix when touring (back then, not anymore I assume) and describing groupies and people's thoughts of them.. And by saying: "If you touch that girl You know it's okay People say she's a whore anyway" he kind of justifies that these girls are just a fix for him, not love, just sex. |

I agree with your interpretation and I also love this song so so much! and just Austra in general.. I don't now if you don't know this, but Katie Stelmanis is gay, so it could have something to do with her suddenly falling in love/having a crush on a man, but because of her sexuality she knows that she's going to lose him, which is the only thing she can focus on (as she repeats this) And I hate that part with "hold her by the thumbs", because I also do not know what it means - also, I can't figure out if 'her' is herself or a new girl.. But if it is herself, it could be that he will not be able to get her, because he is not able to give her what she wants, as she says "the other, the other" = he's doing it wrong... But then I don't know who it is that comes in the darkness - another man or woman? |
