First off, it's important to know that "Porter" in the UK can mean "One in charge of a gate or door." It seems like he's a guard at a women's insane asylum. Throughout the song he makes reference to mentally disturbed women who reside in said asylum. I don't think it goes any deeper than this honestly. |

So based on the feedback of others and the lyrical content, I feel like his intention was to create what is essentially Chiaroscuro with words. There is a constant contrast between light and dark imagery. Along with the comments about the aforementioned official lyrics being "my... girl", it would appear that Beck has decided to leave it to everyone's imaginations. Nothing is written in stone and the exchange of "Sun-eyed" and "Cyanide" completely alters the feeling of the song. I highly doubt we're ever going to get an answer. |
