| I think it is hard to distinguish between evil and good powers. The devil has also power and he is able to trick us, when we don't care too much or loose our connection to god. I like your Christian interpretation, you have found interesting bible verses to this. May I ask you a favour? Please read my interpretation and comment it to me, I would like to know what do you think about the parallels I have found, because I don't know what I have to think. One time I listened to this song, I felt like I would hear demons through their voices (but that's not the point, it was on a drug trip and in a time, in which I was searching for God more than ever) | |

At first I want to say, that these lyrics here are very (very, very) deep, and there are much meanings which are quite very different to each other. I think there is a political, emotional, autobiographic and a religious meaning in this song. By reading those lyrics, everyone will notice the presence of the subject "we", also the frequency of the words "sky" "water" or things, that have to do with them, like "high" or "river". Another core word is "mind" and also is "fall". And there is a parallel (very known) story to the story told in the lyrics: (It is just a parallel story; this is the way it is written, but at first this has nothing to mean !!!) The Fall of the Angels and people: Lucifer, once the leader of worship in heaven (one of the aerials in the sky), seduced many angels and so they fell. God punished them and now they are demons. Satan's words to those fallen ones: We are one. We were one in heaven, and we are one after the fall here on earth or in hell. - - - another parallel: ----- The snake said "eat this fruit" (drink from the river) to Eve "it will open your mind and you will be like god" (when you loose, small mind, you'll free your life" - the same seduction like with the fallen angels) she ate and so did Adam. After this they realized that they were naked and tried to hide. (...) God went angry and punished them. Adam and Eve FELL in sin, seduced by the snake. But men and women are still ONE. the were in paradise (past!) (aerial) and also on earth (aerial) (now!). in the beginning, there was a WORD then there was a man and he was the LIGHT and the light shone in the VOID, (dark) (you see a LIGHT in the dark, you HEAR a WORD in the silence...) religious cultures say: Everything that lives in sin has no rest until it finds back to god, if it wants (allways want to go, NEVER [such a strong term!] want to stay) - sin means to not CHOOSE got: Eva had to believe the snake or god - the angels had to do the same. God says: I made you, we are equal. Don't eat the fruit. The snake lies, it has to die. The Snake says: God says, that you have to obey. But I say: Eat the fruit and you will know the truth. _ we are the ones that want to choose, Always want to play but you never want to loose _ etc. etc. etc. there are many parallels in this song to religious-cultural contexts, I think you will get out some others too. But now to my interpretation: This song is about choosing between right or wrong by perhaps not knowing what is right and what is wrong. It is about open your mind and about that you see, when you open your eyes. And maybe it’s about falling deep after climbing high. Always choose the good! |

it is like a prayer, to God, he is like a father, like a mother, like a friend. We have to become like kids (again). :) otherwise I know another version, he is singing : " ..the sky is blue and my soul used to see .." Very deep lyrics in my opinion, maybe even Neil didn't knew how deep when he was writing this song. |

at first I want to excuse my bad english, sorry I 'm from Slovakia ok, everybody knows this song was wrote on LSD, so everybody knows this is nowhere. - ok, maybe also on other drugs, we all can be very sure in this point. Before I want to say something about the lyrics, think about the melody, the speed, the way Neil's voice sounds, - In my oppinion (a bit) helpless (the first three chords are the same like in helpless, but I don't think that this has to say anything.).. To me he sounds like someone who saw something, that has scared him alot. And that's what the song is about. About a vision. The drugs are not the point in the song, of course it is about something that has something to do with drug-consume; but don't think about them too much. Neil was a junkie, of course he was high (all the time), there was nothing special for Neil to write about a song. For Junkies is being high a very usual thing, they don't think about it. The song is about those visions he had on drugs, but not about the drug. first verse he writes about what everyone can read, the knights are in a central point. Once I was high and listened to this song and thought about the lyrics - it was a long time ago, I once had a drug problem, but now I can live free - I 've seen those knights too, they came from the past, to take us to the future, they were like demons. They were talking and singing about their Queen, and her name was "Diana", the highest goddess in the belief of traditional Satanism. And people started following them, they didn't knew the queen, but there was a parade, the peasants were singin for the queen; and the armored man (the demons and the prophets in the name of Diana) started to ruin everything that should bless the lord, when the apocalypse will come: The Nature, the humans. The archer split the tree. What a wonder! The peasants were suprised, they had never seen something like this. What a glorious wonder! The people saw that those strangers ( the knights) started to ruin nature, but they didn't recognize it, because they were so impressed. the second verse showed me Neil lying there in nowhere-land in this basement, it was a bit like in jail, the room was dark, but the night could shine through the window and the moon was very light, and so on.. very impressive pictures, you know Neil's lyrics, they are all wrote with a lot of very good fantasy. A friend told him the truth about the stranger knights, and that they serve demonic sources and powers. But he was hopin this was a lie. He knew the truth, but was hopin it was a lie. last verse shows, how "they" were taking mother natures silver-seeds to their new home in the sun. they were taking the seeds and the humans, in a way, they are the same, it was a prophetic; the seed and the child, that will crush the snakes head. And the strangers were taking the "chosen ones" to their "new home" where everything is fire. This is hell. A good friend told Neil the truth about the places and demons, but Neil felt good with a Lie, so he was hoping the truth was a lie and the lie the truth. that was how I saw the lyrics in a vision I had after a very psychedelic - drug consume. I don't say that this is the meaning, just the way I felt it, when I heard that helpless voice singin. |

i thing it is about politics, the USA and so on, but I think it is also a very autobiographic song. Things he have seen when he was younger, like "Poeple sleepin' in their shoes", like homeless man; but I think Neil has also slept often times in his shoes, when he was on drugs. |
