For me this is about life being a little empty, while you chug forward halfheartedly, with a deep longing for a void that isn't ever quite filled. But at the same time there is an acceptance and appreciation for the beauty of any specific moment. It sucks being awake all night, but then there is this beautiful sunrise. The exasperation of travel sucks, and brings him to the ground where he contemplates the emptiness of life and the passage of time, but its ok because at that moment, the sun on his face feels good. Love this song. Always makes me feel like, no matter how tough or empty things seem, its OK, I can accept where I am, appreciate solace in a simple moment..... |

So for me this song is about a girl who was "brought up right," loved and respected, appropriately sheltered and shown manners and niceties. The singer admires her deeply for this. He had fun with her and enjoyed being with her and playing in her perfect world, but for him that was all it was. He knew he didn't quite belong there. I think he sees her as naive. Not insensitive or selfish, just that from her perfect sheltered perspective she could never truly "see" and understand him and his imperfections. Didn't diminish his admiration for her though. Love this song right now! But I seem to see it as a movie montage from the 70s :-). |
