My favorite John Denver song. One of my top 5 favorite songs ever. I grew up with all the wonderful music of that era. I haven't read any John Denver biography books but just from the lyrics "you might say he was born again" I feel he implies Colorado to him would be like being born again. I have seen both born again and atheist references here to him. I don't myself see John saying either way.
I would be curious to hear what anyone thinks about "got crazy once and tried to touch the sun" and "lost a friend but kept his memory". Also a reference to starting a new life in Colorado but still recalling the times prior? Enjoying all the thoughts here. |

I have really enjoyed all the comments. Generally I think it is about the horrible things that happened to the slaves by the "owners" if you will. like many songs there can be more than one level, hence many have mentioned the heroine/brown sugar. Great song, bit unsettling tale it does tell. With all the 'censor police" out there these days they seem to be thankfully skipping this classic due to no swear words. Great opinions all around. |
