I think it may be about a relationship between two people who have been quite and quietly in love with on another over a long period of time, perhaps years. It may also be that one had been involved with someone else, I gather from their feeling guilty. I feel like it's such a beautifully honest moment for her, in which she has decided to stop telling herself she could be as happy with anyone else, or keep up the pretense doesn't have this affection for him. The lyrics give the sense of a long involvement hinted at so quickly, and the music video, by contrast, is the slow unfocused pan out, revealing her standing foremost against the backdrop of an eye as she repeats "oh that our eyes would be open" insisting they not "waste a minute more". |
