Barenaked Ladies – The Old Apartment Lyrics 11 years ago
For the longest time, before I actually decided to look up the lyrics to this song, I thought the line where he says "She loves me and her body keeps me warm," I thought instead of "love," he said "left," causing the song to take on a very darkly humorous theme. "Oh, she left me, so I decided the best course of action was to kill her and sleep with her remains". I now realize that while there still is an element of dark humor in this song (I mean, come on. He breaks into his old apartment to reminisce about old times. That's not normal, let alone legal), it is not as dark as I previously thought, but instead it's mostly a song about how change, while in some ways can be good, can also kind of suck. Overall though, I find this song to be a funny perspective on nostalgia and the way it works sometimes. There is no logical reason for the protagonist to have emotional attachment to a mouse trap, or dish rack, much less the hole he punched in the door. Even though he lives in a much better place, with the same girl he lived with in the apartment, and their lives are presumably better, he still views the apartment as belonging to him, even though someone else is living in it now. All of this is ridiculous from an outsider's perspective. Why would you want to break into a crappy apartment you once lived in and trouble yourself with petty things like the walls and the floor? You have a much better place, and are still with the same woman you love who shares these memories with you, so why would you want to go back? And yet we have all experienced this feeling of wanting to go back, just to think about the good ole' days. And BNL takes this to a different level, with a guy going so far as to break into the place he used to live to look back on the good times he and his spouse had there. This is why BNL is such a great band.

My Chemical Romance – Cementery Drive (Hidden Message) Lyrics 12 years ago
Thanks for the tip, Guitargirl35! I never would have heard this if I hadn't known that. I love this song, and this just makes it better. And while some people think it's just background vocals, it's pretty obvious that this is supposed to be hidden. Yes it does add to the song, but your have to be looking for it to find it.

My Chemical Romance – Vampires Will Never Hurt You Lyrics 12 years ago
Is there a certain song in the "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge" album where it says that? Or is the whole album about that?
