Knowing The Knife and their thematic motif of gender theory within their music, I really believe this song is more idealistic than it is situational. Simply put, I feel like this song is expressing vulnerability after being enlightened by someone/something, and how gender notions (see Judith Butler) distort communication of that enlightenment to others, leaving a sense of insecurity and fear of consequences in doing so. In terms of situation, I think it's whatever situation the listener can personally associate with it, which is really the beauty of The Knife's music. |
