| As I Lay Dying – Overcome Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
This is one of As I Lay Dying's "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" songs, with a religious twist (as many of their songs feature Christian themes). The first few lines are really setting the stage. All these moments of pain, Must add up to something ie, everything must happen for a reason "But our hearts still hold on" - we really can't forget about the pain for some reason. "Some say release it" - some people try to put their past behind them, forget about it. But Tim says "instead we count the cost" - we (or people like Tim) sort of hold it in, we remember all the sorrow in our lives. "That doesn't mean we can't move on." Don't forget your past, instead, learn from your experiences, take that pain with you and let it motivate you and change you for the better. "Why rid of fuel that makes us stronger?" Use the sorrow in your life to motivate yourself to do good. "And in the same way that everything good in life can be taken away so can all this pain." This is classic Job from the Bible and really this is the interpretation of those stories that everyone should take away. "No matter what it is we face it's now part of us. No matter what we face in this life we can overcome." This is sort of how they add to what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. There isn't anything in this world that we can't overcome, that can't make you stronger. |
