This song is about codepency in a toxic relationship. I feel this song strongly as it vividly depicts a familiar story of my present toxic yet passionate relationship. This is how I understand this song: First lines of the song; a married woman has what she thought would be just a one night stand (she's naked, she shouldn't be there, she's stupid...) but she gets attached (cupid hit her). He's inebriated (he's a heavy drinker /alcoholic/ druggie): It also helps him to deal with a married woman. She needs the relationship, it gives her a high. She will give him real love (she has none in her marriage but she can't leave her husband for whatever reason). They're each other's drug but it's a fatal drop that soon will kill them but until then they both can't quit, so they will linger on as long as it lasts. He's madly in love with her but waisted his time on her heart (she's married) he's burned. Fuck him, if he has to fall like a bridge, then be it! She needs his love but she wants him to stay away because although she truly loves him, he can be at times an unreliable alcoholic/druggie asshole. Life is easier with her husband who is kind to her. Stay gone, Stay clean. I need you to need me. So we're bound to linger on until we fall apart in parts. They love each other but can't sort out their shit so they just linger in this vacuous codependent relationship... just bleeding. |
